"So if anyone is in Christ, a new creature is ..."
2 Corinthians 5:17
You have to be born again
Verily, verily I say unto you, Except a man be born again, he can not see the kingdom of God (John 3: 3).
This statement was made by Jesus to Nicodemus. Now, was not he a Jew, a member of the race chosen by God? Was not he a good man, very moral? Was not he a teacher among the Jews? Yes, Nicodemus was all those things, but he was still a member of Adam's sinful family. He was not a child of God. Jesus spoke again to Nicodemus:
What is born of the flesh is flesh; and what is born of the Spirit, spirit is. Do not be surprised that I told you: You must be born again (John 3: 6-7).
No one can be born again without hearing and believing the Word of God, and no one can be born again without the work of the Holy Spirit.
Our duty is to approach the Lord Jesus as sinners and to receive Him as our Savior. The Bible says:
But to all who received him, to those who believe in his name, he gave them the right to become children of God (John 1:12).
When we truly believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and we receive Him as our Savior, we are born again.
When we receive the Lord Jesus as our Savior, God does wonderful things in our lives:
1.-God justifies us.
This means that He forgives all our sins and declares us righteous in Christ.
Being justified freely by his grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24).
2.-God takes us out of Adam's family and places us in the family of Christ.
We are no longer in Adam, which is the family of Satan, but in Christ; which is the family of God
3.-God makes us His children.
God does for us something he does not do for any other creature. He makes us His own children. The Bible says:
See what love the Father has given us, so that we may be called children of God (1 John 3: 1).
4.-God gives us a new Spirit, and gives us His Spirit to dwell in our new spirit.
... and I will put a new spirit within you ... and I will put my Spirit within you ... (Ezekiel 36: 26-27).
We need to clarify one thing: our old nature is not removed when we are born again. God does not take away the old sinful nature, but He gives us His life to overcome it. Our old nature will not be removed until Jesus comes for us, but, with the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, we can overcome the sinful desires of that old nature.
5.-God gives us Eternal Life.
We will never be separated from God.
God has given us eternal life; and this life is in his Son
The Bible says:
Body Soul Spirit And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life; and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5: 11-12.
God does many other wonderful things for us when we are born again. It places us in Christ. He unites us with His Son. It frees us from the kingdom of darkness and the power of sin. It makes it possible for us to be victorious over the world, the flesh and the devil.
When we are born again, the Spirit of God comes to dwell with us, and He gives testimony to our spirit that we are children of God.
When we are born again, the Spirit of God makes the Word of God a reality in our hearts and we will know through the Word of God that we are saved.
When we are truly born again, our way of living will change. We will want to obey God and His Son, Jesus Christ. We will begin to love the things that are right and to hate the things that are bad. We will have love in our hearts for the unconverted and we will want them to be saved. We will also love the other Christians.
The Bible says:
We know that we have passed from death to life, when we love our brothers (1 John 3:14).
All these things will begin to happen because we are born again.
HAVE YOU BORN AGAIN?
Jeremiah 17: 8
8 It will be like a tree planted by the water,
that extends its roots towards the current;
he does not fear that the heat will come,
and its leaves are always green.
In times of drought do not worry,
and it never fails to bear fruit ».
