Reflecting on the above lyrics this morning got my mind around the world and the much chaos we face each day. There is confusion every where, the hearts of men are troubled; strife and war. Many have sought for ways out, but many times get entangled the more. But we still have hope!

In the Book of Romans 7: 24-25, the scripture captures the true picture of the ordinary man and the true state of his heart towards life:

O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! - Romans 7:24–25

The warrings we have in life is instigated by the flesh from raging thoughts of defeat to jealousy, greed, and lust to anger, inferiority, condemnation, and arrogance. Truly, there is no way out of this mess in as much as we are in this physical body.

Even the Apostle Paul had his struggles with the flesh when he wrote in Romans 7:18–19:

“For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice” (emphasis mine).

A careful observation of the above verses will show a frequent mention of the words “I,” “me,” and “my”. We can vividly identify with the apostle’s struggle with the flesh. It is the struggle we all face. Many times, we find ourselves warring with the flesh within us. It’s a life of vexation, anger, defeat, and despair. This war when left unsettled transcends to affect our relationships with others.

Deep Truth

The above kind of life is not where God wants you to live. A believer shouldn’t find himself living in the kind of life portrayed above. There is a way out. After lamenting his anguish, here is what Paul said in Romans 8:3:

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

The above verse is the basis of our joy. But we can rejoice because when Jesus died on the cross, the He “condemned sin in the flesh”. Truly, all the negative thoughts, defeats and toxic emotions from the flesh have already been judged and punished at the cross. Today we can experience and testify of the victory over the flesh through the power of the cross.

Only our Saviour, Jesus Christ, can deliver us from pangs of the flesh. In Christ Jesus, we can see Romans 8: 1 be real in our lives:

“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (NASB).

This is where where we are now when we identify with Christ. We are no more condemned. We no exist in the place of constant struggle with the flesh and despair, Now! our victory and justified life is in Christ Jesus.

Indeed, Jesus is the answer for the World.

A Call to Action

In Romans 10: 9 -10, the scripture points to action that can be taken to unravel this mystery and enjoy this newness of life.

• By believing in our heart that God raised Jesus Christ from death makes us right with God;
• By only confessing Jesus as our Lord saves you from all our sins.
