Being Called Sam

I grew up in the early 60's in a township within a city. On the street of which everyone knew everyone. Children were watch and phones used to tattle if children were where they did not belong. Neighborhood network of day care.

One older man that lived down and accross the street always called me Sam anytime he saw me playing outside. He would not call me Julie, it was always Sam, with him. I think now years later that I always enjoy the memories he and I made together. I would argue with him about my name. I came up with names for him like he had for me. Iwas under five years old. He was always asking if I could help him or his wife with little things. We moved from that street at my 5th year. We did not move far and at about age 16 I rode my bike by his house. He was out side raking leaves. I stop and introduced myself. He could not remember me until I told him he use to call me Sam. The reconition was great we visited often.

Good times being called Sam.
