Racing Sailboats and Rock & Roll
Here is another chunk of go-pro video shot during a regatta this summer.
In the video, we are battling winds gusting up to 25 knots, tacking to try and stay ahead of the other boats, and I am trying to film and trim the jib. Hiking on the side of the boat to try and keep it flat in such crazy winds is fun enough but having to do it while filming, and grinding the winches while holding the camera in my teeth, well that's just fun.
The song is from my band Curses! I play a little guitar, wrote the riffs, and sing a little backup vocals. The chanting started out like that in Accept - Balls to the Wall but took on a life and style of its own as we refined it and took it into the recording studio.

That's some intense sailing.
We had a 30' Morgan for a couple of years. It was a lot of fun, but after we lost the roller-furling due to a faulty shackle and the engine due to ethanol contaminating the gas, I realized that the cost to enjoyment ratio was nowhere near worthwhile. Much better to have friends with boats!

I have always just been a boat whore because boats need crew when it comes to sailing. 95% of the time has been on that J27 and it is the thing that he does so he keeps it up well.
It would have been much more action from my perspective as a trimmer had we been using the number 1 as I have to pull the sheets all the way around. The number 3 under that much wind is less frantic but just as intense on the grind at the end to get it right in.
