SUBJECT: RELIGIOUS AND NATIONAL VALUES. (SOCIAL STUDIES)

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE:

By the end of the lessons, the pupils were able to:

1. Define Accident
2. Know the causes of Accident in the homes and school.
3. Know how to prevent Accidents in the school and home.

Meaning of Accident.

An Accident is an unplanned event that can lead to injury or death. It can also be described as an unfortunate event resultimng from people's carelessness or ignorance. Accidents can include falls,electrical shocks,burns,cut etc. They can occur in our schools or homes.

Causes of Accidents in the school and Homes.

Accidents are mainly caused by either carelessness or ignorance. In the school and home, accidents can be caused by any of the following:

1. Dirty and slippery floor: slippery floors can cause us to fall.
2. Faulty Electrical gadgets: They can cause electrical shocks or burns.
3. Sharp objects: such as blade,knife,scissors etc can lead to cuts.
4. Faulty chairs and Desks: faulty chairs and desks in schools can cause accidents and lead to injuries.

How to prevent Accidents in the school and homes.

In order to prevent the occurence of accidents in our homes and schools, we must do the following:

• We must remove all dangerous objects from our surroundings.

• We must not play with sharp objects or exposed electrical sources. We must avoid them.

• We must ensure that our floors are tidy and dry. We must always mop the floor when we pour water on it.

Road Accidents:

Road accidents occurs on the road. It can cause damages of properties and injuries to the victims, or loss of life. Road accidents can be caused by vehicle running into each other, or running into the bush, or through the wrong track of another etc.

Causes of Road accidents are:

1. Bad roads.
2. Sleeping while driving.
3. Overloading of vehicles.
4. Careless and unsafe driving.
5. Poor vehicles.
6. Poor use of resources etc.

Adults should be responsibly for children’s safety in vehicles.
