What Went Right Today?
Doing things right isn't all positive angles, enjoyment, and "goodness." Sometimes doing the right thing is ugly and messy. Today was a bit messy. But it was messy done right.
- I went to a fancy breakfast with my two little kids. They sat lovely at the breakfast table and colored. We ordered a french toast breakfast and split it three ways, more than enough, especially because I let myself have a fancy latte and them have hot chocolates with whipped cream. After we were done with our breakfast, we took ourselves outside to a nice patio, where they continued coloring in the sunshine and sipping delicious concoctions. Only a little bit of hot chocolate got on our clothes ;)
Here's my "fancy latte"
This is the french toast. It was as delicious as it was pretty
I let the kids make dinner. (Told ya it was messy) They pretty much "kid picked up" after themselves. The floor is a little grainy, the dishes are minor. The pizza was delicious.
I let myself feel bad, and then I let myself cry. (Yup, that kind of messy too). Sometimes when you are feeling down, or you remember something bad, its good to put a bright smile forward, and let it pass. Sometimes its ok to stop, and look, and ask questions, and feel. Today I let myself feel and gauge. And you know what I found? Pain. And I didn't know how deep the pain went, so I let myself look. And I decided, that I need more time to heal. And now Im giving it to myself. That means that I give myself another few months of "taking it slow" and "concentrating on the day to day." Because I let myself feel the pain that still exists today, I was able to recognize that Im not able to venture head first into the next step. I still have some healing to do.
Doing things right, means giving yourself what you need.
