John McAfee, the software security specialist is at it again, he is back with full force on social media. He has decided to go against the sixth-largest exchange by volume, HitBTC.

In one of his latest tweets, he has called for an outright boycott of Hitbtc and he urges his social media followers to take a hard look at crypto exchanges, especially Hitbtc.

He attacked HitBTC for having minimum buy-in fees that are quite expensive for some users.

The crypto exchanges have become the thing that we have originally fought against. Their power is immense. Hitbtc, for example, has increased suffering for millions of poor people who cannot afford the minimum buy-in since it is greater than their monthly income. Boycott them.

The argument for boycotting exchanges like Hitbtc presented by McAfee focuses on the idea that the big crypto players are working to find ways to get the poor out or even the average, making it difficult for the masses to enter.

Apparently, it seems that a member of the team had a problem removing the funds from the exchange, which caused an alarm that rose like a snowball in the chain. Perhaps this is the reason why John McAfee had such a focus on the exchange.

McAfee doubled down in a second Tweet…

.@hitbtc I will be your worst enemy until you prove that you are aligned with our community and are truly interested in helping the poor. You have not done shit to help access the only free healthcare in the world.

McAfee has always predicted the ability of blockchain and cryptocurrency to eliminate the grids of central banks and be free of regulatory government action. He always advocates a peer-to-peer economy in which the citizens of the world can build to be truly free for the first time in history.

Boom, I am not a fan of sHitBTC either, they really are the worst exchange

I've never used HitBTC - what are the issues? I've noticed that some withdrawal fees are expensive - Is there more?

Yes, there are more issues in my experience.

  1. The support is less than what I would expect from an organization their size. I have had support tickets ignored for months and when I do get a reply, it is useless and does not address the issue. I still have three open cases with them that I raised in January 2018
  2. The site has regular issues with not connecting, I get that DDoS is an issue but not this much.
  3. Any maintenance they perform always overruns with little to no communication.
  4. As you mentioned the fees for withdraws are extortionate and they are always last to implement new chains, you still cannot withdraw or deposit native EOS tokens.

Hmmmm support can be a deal breaker for me. I always feel that it reflects attitudes maintaining internal procedures and code quality. If a company is not fastidious with support then they are in those areas as well.

Cardano is a standout example of this as far as I am concerned. What is coming from the top sounds wonderful but support for their "product" has to be some of the worst I have ever seen. It got to the point where I was fed up of responding to the standard emails requesting information that I had given them 20+ times.
