Marathon Post #3
Back to running
As you could read in my post from yesterday, I had quite a week(end) behind me. So obviously I did not have time and I lacked any fitness to go running.
Conditions were very extreme today and every water body I passed was frozen
Today I decided to pick up where I left off, before I would really have trouble getting back into the routine. So despite the Siberian conditions when I left home this morning and not getting warmer than -6 degrees when I set off, I had to face the conditions regardless.
The cold really affected my run today and it gave me quite some difficulties. Despite not having ran in a week I could not match my pace from my previous runs. Off course this was partially due to my illness, but the wind in my face really hindered my breathing. I decided that today was just not ideal and settled for the 4 kilometers and run again tomorrow.
An extreme cold dryness today, hard for breathing and for the knees
Here are the stats from my Garmin Fenix 3, for those of you who want to hook up on Garmin Connect and follow me go to this link and let's connect!

Look at that temperature, even without the windfactor!

My last 3 runs in comparison, all on this course
This all fits in nicely with the plan that I currently have in mind to prepare myself for my marathon trainings:

I got this plan from @apprentice, when I first started thinking about competing in a marathon
This is just one persons' opinion and I would welcome your feedback. My plan is to build up to this routine slowly by running 4 times a week now on Tuesdays (5/6 kilometers), Wednesdays (5/11 kilometers), Fridays (5/6 kilometers) & Sundays (11/22 kilometers) until May or June and then start with this routine slowly.
I have almost a whole year until the first marathon that I'm thinking about participating in, so plenty of time to really prepare myself well. I look forward to your opinions, which I know many of you have and you even have more experiences.
On a final note, I still keep finding out (3rd time now that I make this announcement now) that many people still haven't heard of the @runningproject or its bot @isotonic, so if you're a runner and want to be rewarded, just join our community. It's easy and quick and the 1 SBD or Steem is earned back in no time as you get an upvote on EACH post, not just the ones about running.
Keep running and stay fit!

Great post @wolfje I think your training looks good and you have given yourself a lot of time. I saw you have a 32km long run in there, which you need to remember is probably more for your mental state in making sure you can get through the marathon.
Good luck and look forward to hearing about your progress.

Thanks bud!
Well, I can fully understand how cold can interfere with running... I have the same issues at the moment. Regarding the marathon plan: it looks like fine, ordinary, not a too strenuous training plan. Since you intend to use it as pre-plan prior to your final plan and this one is meant more for building the "friendship" with longer distances is a very nice one. It also has weeks with "shorter" long runs (like "resting" weeks). Maybe you would like to add also speed work to help you improve the pace and make the training less dull, but you can easily do this with transforming one of the medium lengths runs into speed work. Onward and upwards!
The goal will be to finish it, my motivation is to do one marathon before I'm 40, which is next year. So speed is secondary to building up the stamina and avoiding injuries. I'm also afraid if I went for speed, I'd need more help to tell me how and what to focus on, which I don't really have the time for, does that make any sense?
You are right: focus on stamina and avoiding injuries is much more important. Perfect approach. This plan will bring these results. Fingers crossed and onwards and upwards!
Thanks for your support!
Congrats for facing the cold!!
LOL, call me crazy 😆
Im going to try and go running, just need to motivate myself. I guess the first few days are always tough.
Have you ran before? You have to start slowly if you're not used to it. Have a look at my posts how I got into running.
I did lots of running when I was younger, but I know its going to be tough as Ive got bad knees. But I need to get into shape. I will take a look at your previous posts, as I do need the advice. Thanks x
Good luck and if you have bad knees, just start with walking. Any activity is better than sitting and doing nothing.
Okay I will do. I totally agree. Thanks
Whish you better weather for your running. I only train at home at the moment because we have - 15 degrees. That's to cold for me to run an hour outside
Yeah, that's why I'm doing really short runs at the moment. I don't have a home-trainer, so it really comes down to going outside for me.
