Jake Robertson wins Houston half-marathon
Have you heard of Jake and Zane Robertson?
They are twin brothers from New Zealand who went to Kenya when they were 17.
For what?
To become best runners in the world.
And yesterday, Jake won Houston half marathon.
The field was full of world-class runners, including Guye Adola of Ethiopia, who ran 2:03:46 in Berlin last September.
Jake ran 60:01, just a 2 second late for sub-hour half marathon, and won the whole thing.
I felt very emotional because Jake and Zane are proving the world that talent is not everything. They commited their life to running for last 11 years and they are two of now few non-Kenyan-or-Ethiopian world-class runners that can compete with Kenyans and Ethiopians.
You can read more about their story at let'sruns.com's great write-up on the race here.
Vice did a crsip documentary on Robertson brothers and you can watch it here.
Jake is going to win a lot more races in the future. If you want him to inspire you, follow him through his twitter and instagram.
p.s.
sadly, I didn't get to interview him when I was in Iten, Kenya, in 2015. I saw him coming back from one of his long runs though...
Happy running,
Sung
