Another new running chapter is near
I've been a parkrunner for a while and since July last year I have been part of a team looking to bring parkrun to my home town.
parkrun (intentional lower case "p") is a fantastic initiative that started 13 years ago in London and is now encircles the globe at over 1200 locations. Every Saturday morning, these locations host a free 5km timed event that people can run, jog or walk. Another key principle of the success is building a community spirit around the event.
After a lot of hard work we are finally in the home straight and today we hit a milestone as our run page went live on the parkrun UK website. We are now one of the 1200 little tree icons on the parkrun map:
Exciting times! It does mean my own running on a Saturday will take a back seat as I am one of 5 Run Directors who will take it in turns to take charge of the run each week but it'll be great to see so many runners, joggers and walkers enjoying Saturday mornings in the fresh air.

I hadn't heard of parkrun before. It looks like it's a lot bigger on your side of The Pond.
It's huge over here and I've always been surprised how it hasn't taken off in the States. Maybe there are other, similar initiatives?

I've heard of that but don't really understand what it/they are?
I don’t know a lot about it other than it is a somewhat slightly secret society where everyone has a nickname and there’s a little running to go with all of the drinking.
