Getting back into runningsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #running8 years ago

After a long hot miserable summer where I live, I'm finally getting back into running. I've completed so many races in my life and I hate it when I get out of practice and lose my speed which seems to happen a lot over the summer.

I got out and ran at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning in 75 degree weather and light rain. It was only 2 miles in 16 minutes as shown in my garmin connect profile, but it's a start. As a person who's run 12 marathons in the past seven years, I'm kind of disappointed in myself for getting kind of out of shape when it comes to running. The picture below shows my first run going into the fall and the first of many to train for my next half marathon this fall and marathon in the spring.

I was actually inspired to get back into running regularly by @dragosroua who has created a new coin for runners who record and document their running. This is my first (humble) entry and I look forward to participating in his challenge. Below is my proof that the image above is mine. It was hard to get the numbers on the Garmin screen to show up and see my face clearly in the picture but I got it after about six tries lol.

It's okay if you got out of shape. At least, you're trying hard to get back into shape again. Shows your commitment :)

I commend people like you who are able to keep up running, even when the weather outside is stiflingly hot and humid. Good job on that!! Keep it up.

Thanks, this happens to me to some extent every summer. Hopefully the slightly cool weather in my area will stick around until Fall but I have a feeling there will be another heat wave before summer is over.

Where are you based? I am in Thailand at the moment and it's rainy season, so it's nice and cool.

I'm in Tennessee in the southeastern United States. It is very humid here in the summer time! Glad to hear the weather is a bit cooler where you are.

Ah, makes sense... The deep south.. :) Thanks for sharing.

I live in Georgia, so I totally feel your pain!

True inspiration. Men just keep running. And don't quit. All the best in next runs.

Oh I'm the opposite.. I lose it in the cold, at least summer is back on its way where I am. Time to get into back shape for a few halfs. So easy to lose that running fitness. Best wishes for your upcoming runs - wont say good luck.. I know its just your hard work and consistency - not luck that gets you through :)
