Run for Steem - Trolley Number Nine Trail
Trolley Line Number Nine Trail - 3 miles
Here’s my entry in @jumowa’s Weekly Run for Steem Challenge for Jan 15th - Jan 22nd. My run today was along the Trolley Line Number Nine Trail. It starts in historic Old Ellicott City, Maryland and and heads up to Oella, Maryland. And I mean up literally. It’s only a 3 mile out and back trail, but the out is 1.5 miles uphill.
To get to the trailhead, you turn off of Old Frederick Road onto Oella Avenue at the appropriately named Trolley Stop Cafe. There’s a parking lot to the left of the cafe and the trail starts between the lot and the cafe. The photo below was taken from the start of the trail.
Below is an elevation chart of the run. You will gradually pick up about 290 feet of ascent on the way up.
The sign says 1.1 miles to Oella, but the trail crosses Oella and continues another 0.4 miles.
After you pass the sign, you’ll run on a boardwalk trail through a small gorge carved out of the rock so that the trolley could get down to the river.
On the way up, you’ll pass by the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum.
For the first half of the uphill, you’ll run along a scenic little stream. Today it was a series of little frozen waterfalls.
The trail ends in a neighborhood at a large gate. At that point it’s time to turn around and enjoy the mile and a half of downhill running.
Thanks again to @jumowa for sponsoring this challenge.
This is super helpful info. I need to check that place out. I just did my run for steem post I didn't get any Cool pics like you did kinda went a different direction this week. ;)
Thanks. Getting material for Run for Steem posts is incentive for me to get out and run in some new locations. I’ll be traveling for business the next couple of weeks and hope to get some runs in Charlotte and Atlanta.
If in Atlanta try to go to stone mountain. It's 5 miles around it. Totally worth it!! Great place for photos.
Resteemed and UV'ed
Awesome. I love that this is a photo + trail guide! What a beautiful boardwalk. When I lived in DC I failed to make it to the Benjamin Banneker museum. Have you been?
I haven’t been to the museum and I live less than three miles away. It should be on my list. Thanks for the comments!
I understand - I live within blocks for a few historical sites I still need to visit! I look forward to you Steeming about the museum ;) (no pressure...ha!)
Looks such s beautiful area fir a run thanks for taking us along
You’re welcome.
Awesome trail and photos of the event you experienced
Thanks!
Thank you for the quick tour to Benjamin Bannekker Historical Park. Those photos are truly awesome.
You’re welcome and thanks.
Lol I was just thinking how hilarious it would be if we bumped into each other during one of these #runforsteem inspired blog runs since I usually stop or at the end will stop abd take pictures lol
I often will pause in the middle of my run if I see a good shot. Never know who you’ll run into, we live in a small state!
Yep there's certainly spots you must just stop and capture the moment
