The Ship's Log - a poem for RunAwayRhymes
The ship sailed through the storm
to the rocky islet
Whilst the captain wrote in his log
with ink that was violet
The first mate called him
told him of the rainbow
The first mate was devious
a Lieutenant Indigo
The captain was thoughtful
thinking just what to do
His mood was depressed
a royal navy blue
The first mate had a plan
a treacherous scheme
And the captain was young
not a little green
He sipped slowly his sherry
sweatened and mellow
Then snuffed out the candle
whose light had been yellow
And now this colourful tale
will take a twist most strange
As the captain took the knife
he used for cutting his orange
He thrust it in the first mate
and the first mate bled
Covering the captain and his log
with blood that was red
