Registration is open for the 2018 Roguelike Celebration, October 6-7 at the GitHub headquarters in San Francisco, CA. It's a fun conference on roguelike games (such as Nethack, Spelunky, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, or Unexplored), and I highly recommend it!

I attended both the initial 2016 event, which was dual-tracked over one day (and hosted in the Eventbrite headquarters)

and the 2017 celebration, which was switched to a single track over two days at GitHub:

Talks included everything from histories of particular games, to tutorials on machine learning applied to games, to game designers talking about their mechanisms and decisions. Joe Sondow talked about making his popular Twitter bots; Dan Recht of Volute talked about how roguelikes made him a better startup founder. I gave a lightning talk about my silly product to put procedural content generation on the blockchain! The creators of Caves of Qud did a live "choose-your own" playthrough of their game.

I found the attendees to be a friendly and diverse group of both fans and game creators. There are social events at local bars in the evenings (though this does not always work well in downtown San Francisco.) Recordings of previous years' talks can be found on the Roguelike Celebration Youtube Channel, and they are certainly worth browsing.
