The Road to Steem Fest - The actual road // SteemFest 之路

SF4.jpg

I thought I'd put the map up so you can see that Taiwan and Thailand are two different countries, in case anyone still get them mixed up. They're over 2200 km apart and I need to fly three and a half hours to get from Taiwan to Thailand. That's a bit longer than the folks who need to fly in from say Malaysia, but a lot quicker than the others from Australia, Europe or the States. My

My road to SteemFest will actually start some 2 hours before that, well actually 4, if you take into account of check in time and hanging around in the airport. I live about 160km away from Taoyuan Airport, the main airport in Taiwan. The coach is the easiest way for me because it gets me door to door in under two hours.

I don't know if I will be on the same flight as anybody else from Taiwan, the chances are very low. I can count the active Steemian in Taiwan with one hand, which is very sad given that we have 22million population. The Steemians going to SteemFest are even less. The only person who is likely to go is @stoodkev who's a witness. So this will be the first time that I'm flying on my own since a long long time.

Once I land Bangkok airport, I will meet my partner in crime, my room mate for the next few days. And when I say meet, I really do mean meet because I've never met her in person before. That would be fun. I think our flights arrive around the same time, so once we meet up, we'll have to figure out how to get to the hotel. Luckily a few days ago, @roelandp posted the directions on the SteemFest Telegram group. Here's the link if you need it, and the options.

  1. Airport Transfer Service - 1500 baht for group van - or single taxi: 250-400 Baht + toll fees (45-70 baht)
Find taxis or taxivans servicing for 1500 Baht into town.
  2. By Airport Rail Link Skytrain (recommended) 150 baht for express (1 stop) - 45 baht commuter (8 stops)
Skip all traffic and head by public transport. The Air Rail Link gets you in 15 minutes directly onto Phaya Thai - From there you can take a taxi for the last mile, walk 30 minutes, or head via the BTS sky train 1 stop and then the Khlong Saen Saep ferry 2 stops.

Bangkok traffic is quite notorious, so the Air Rail Link seems like the best option as I don't want to be stuck in traffic.

All in all, I reckon my actual road to Steemfest will probably take me about 8.5 hours.

Wow, I just realised we're getting in Countdown minus 30 now..... SteemFest is coming a lot quicker than I expected.

Yes @livinguktaiwan ...

"... I can count the active Steemian in Taiwan with one hand, which is very sad given that we have 22million population."

... that is sad. I hope we both are "in here" to see the day that significantly changes!

I hope you enjoy the adventure at this year's Steemfest!

There are a lot of bloggers in Taiwan, somehow they just seem to be interested blogging about local stuff. Anyway, it is what it is.

Thank you, I am looking forward to Steemfest, and going to Thailand again, it's been such a long time

Are you staying in the main hotel? This bit I haven't sorted out yet. The traffic seems never to move so not keen on that route.

This bit I haven't sorted out yet.

Do you mean the actual accommodation or getting to the hotel?

I figured staying at the Prince whatever (can't even remember the name!!) would be easier coz everyone says the traffic is really bad. Seems like the Skytrain is the quickest, as the hotel is only a mile away, I'd rather be stuck in a taxi for a mile than something like 40km (?) from the airport. Worse case, just get out and walk.....

40km from the airport to the Prince whatever hotel? Hmm, that's some distance. I will need to do some homework. Arriving in the evening when I cant see anything.

I'm sure I read that from someone's post, but I can for the life of me remember who's now....

good think about Asian cities, they're always busy at night time unlike most places in UK which are dead unless you're in the pub, so you won't get lost even if you arrive in the evening

This is very exciting!
Happy to see you again!

I hope my roaming will work before I get a local number.

I heard Grab works well there in case other transportation is a hassle.

And to travel 160km to the airport for travels? Wow... That's already very admirable!

See you there! 👋🏻
