My 10 suggestions to improve steemit for Roadmap 2018steemCreated with Sketch.

in #roadmap20187 years ago (edited)

Dear Steemit developers,

STEEM/steemit is passing through a successful year, almost 500K users, 6X price gain, 2000 ranking (alexa) and lots of projects (eg. @utopian-io, @dtube, @zappl). I believe 2018 will be better than ever with price appreciation, millions of users, more user friendly interface and numerous Dapps. Following are my 10 proposals for #roadmap2018:

  1. Please consider @jerrybanfield's budget proposal. It can spur a deluge of innovations and developments into STEEM blockchain and indirect marketing for STEEM.

  2. Currently, one of the biggest objections from the users that their well written/researched content never gets attention (upvote). Yes, currently curation is done with SP powered vote or delegated SP votes but in chaotic ways. I think the biggest goal is to discover the best contents from sea of posts with multiple algorithms. The current algorithm based on power (upvote) votes. "busy.org" suggest "interesting people" or "Recommended posts" similar ways as twitter. Therefore, a tab with curated posts (by steemit or third party) will help to discover contents (on meritocracy) than current upvoted (payment) system, similar to Netflix's/Redbox's suggested movies. The discovery can be done with ML/AI/human curators. These techniques will improve on learned history. The next section talked about recruiting curators for this purpose. Semi-hired curators: A certain amount of STEEMs from steemit inc. can be delegated to selected curators (similar to utopian-io/developers). Curators can be voted in similar fashion as witness therefore they will be responsible. However, they will not manage node, but read posts and curate within their expertise . As a reward they will earn curation reward. They will look for posts that are under-rewarded. Content creators can communicate with the curators of their area of expertise with some cost (to show their seriousness not to spam). Curators will post a weekly post on curation and they can be voted out/in similar to witnesses. I believe some witnesses do the curation task, but it is not their priority.

  3. Please add other upvote option other than reward/flag such as like, dislike, controversial, innovative etc. Also, some tabs/filters that will publish those posts based on those parameters, similar to reddit's controversial. I think a fixed 1 cent vote for like/great/happy/neutral, negative 0.01 cent for dislike/anger/sad, 1 cent for controversial. A user will have 10/20/30 (perhaps based on reputation) such votes per daily regardless of SP they hold. People sometimes never vote due to limit of their vote power (VP) or already voted. But with these VP, posts can be discovered in numerous algorithmic ways, such as most liked or controversial post.

  4. Though curation is done by the community and bots. Since steemit is an App on STEEM, a tab with SUGGESTED or RECOMMENDED or TRUSTED posts. A users can choose their recommend-er (bots or persons or filters). For example, someone choose @jerrybanfield as suggester, that means post recommended by him will be shown in that tab.

  5. Please DON'T stop delegation process, it is creating new values with velocity (i.e. velocity of money) and innovative products. If possible please reduce the cooling period to 5 days (in 5 days 100% VP can be recovered).

  6. Curation can be made flexible: for example, make maximum curation to 50% and lowest range to 25%. Therefore, big holders are motivated to curate again.

  7. Some posting limit (e.g. 4 posts) and bandwidth limit will be useful to remove some spamming

  8. Private transactions with a cost. If someone want to make a private transaction, he/she has to pay a % to the system.

  9. Please consider big marketing campaigns, easier registrations, RESTEEM tab, more tabs: user customization tabs (e.g. users can make their own fancy tabs)

  10. As fellow steemitians mentioned that steemit inc. should clarify their vision to develop Steemit.com or other apps on STEEM blockchain such as SMT

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by riseofth from the Minnow Support Project. It's a witness project run by aggroed, ausbitbank, teamsteem, theprophet0, someguy123, neoxian, followbtcnews/crimsonclad, and netuoso. The goal is to help Steemit grow by supporting Minnows and creating a social network. Please find us in the Peace, Abundance, and Liberty Network (PALnet) Discord Channel. It's a completely public and open space to all members of the Steemit community who voluntarily choose to be there.

Thanks for bringing #1 to me awareness... Conceptually this could be as 'revolutionary' as steem's content-valuation premise itself! So while I decided to make this comment to add my support for this point, especially as it was not something that reached my radar as a lurker of steem, I want to add some healthy cynicism of the implementation of such a 'growth hack'... because I could argue it might be MORE audacious of an objective than the addressing the very core steem itself (as called for in roadmap2018), in particularly I'll add by FAR, as being the necessities for the platform TO BECOME something sustainable at scale ECONOMICALLY, rather than technically. I'll be refining my detailed analysis/proposal regarding this fundamental issue of STEEM/it in a separate post, but wanted to include it here among my initial hat-tip to the possibility linked around point #1 as STEEM's success is intertwined between its fundamental design choices AND the USERS ability to reward better design (and good ideas).
