Nòva-Occitània

The Nòva-Occitània land is comprised of what was known has the following five departments of France in the year AD 2016: Ariège, Aude, Haute-Garonne, Haute-Pyrénées and Tarn.

This is created in response to the [Rising Steem] How to Play! Create a Nation now! post inviting Steemians to create their fictitious post-apocalyptic nation in order to compete in a role-playing game of build & conquer. Let me further introduce the one I’m submitting by giving you a little background of how it came to be.

Countdown to AD 2050

A couple of years prior to our present day of this AD 2050 year, a group of people from the south of France was able to survive the first Tech War of human history by hiding in the depths of the Pyrenees mountains. When they came back to the surface, they brought with them a certain disdain of destructive technology. This had taken root not only from their lifetime experiences of death and misery, but also from an old Gnostic tradition that happened to resurface at the same time through the discoveries of old texts that had been hiding much longer at this refuge than the humans who temporarily inhabited it. They soon instinctively understood the spiritual wisdom of what those old papyrus contained and they immediately pledge to protect this knowledge at any price. It was felt like they were holding the very words of God itself in their hands and that it was their duty to preserve this from the ever again increasing technological grips of the demiurge’s manifestation of the physical world. In order to keep those rediscovered scriptures from the destructive nature of the outer world they developed a system of priesthood casts, kept the important artefacts beneath the earth and started using what was known as the language of the birds to communicate between themselves. They valued escaping the trap of reincarnation through illuminated perfection above anything else but they didn’t hate living creatures for that matter realizing that embodied souls could always be saved in the fight of good against evil. That is why they didn’t reject having their hands reaching deep in experimentation with technology as a way of fighting fire with fire. They knew that the day would come when other conquering nations would try to take up their land but most importantly their spirit.

Who better than those with selfless interest for science and detached from its seductive promises toward the power hungry for tech domination, to won the race toward (re)invention of the industrial tools that plagued the physical realm focused societies throughout most of modern human history?

Year 0

Presently, there are five main casts in Nòva-Occitània roughly corresponding to the five regions they occupy. Even if Occitan is the official language, Novoccitanians tend to naturally gather around commonly spoken dialects. While many subdivisions of the main casts take care of agriculture, economic exchanges, construction works, etc. The five principle casts each have a specific important function attributed to them. The English speaking tribe is in charge of Economy, the French take care of Diplomacy, the German rattle with Technology, the Italian dabble in Philosophy and the Spanish study War Strategies. As a default, Novoccitanian culture is not war oriented but as any nation should be, they do care about their own survival, but mostly about the religious ideology they consecrated themselves as guardians of. They are reclusive by nature but know they still must explore their surroundings in order to always keep one foot in front of their enemies. Emissaries are sent all around the world to gather intelligence. They sometimes accept new members into their society but always reluctantly and through initiative challenges that must be overcome by any stranger.
