Anime Recommendation - Psycho-Pass

in #review9 years ago

There is nothing more undefined, blurry, and vague than the line that separates "good" from "bad". The definition of "good" and "bad" really lies in the perception of the one that is judging the situation. What complicates this already tricky matter further is that we humans like to rank certain actions and that leads is to the question: "is said action more "good" than another?" Is a doctor who takes it upon himself to save a lot of lives better than a simple citizen who volunteers to help at a homeless shelter?

Psycho-Pass is one of the rare anime that really represent our current society to it's full extend. The show uses a lot of philosophical concepts to really make you think about human morals, psychological concepts, and fluctuation of emotions.

Synopsis:

Justice, and the enforcement of it has changed. In the 22nd century, Japan enforces the Sibyl System, an objective means of determining the threat level of each citizen by examining their mental state for signs of criminal intent, known as their Psycho-Pass. Inspectors uphold the law by subjugating, often with lethal force, anyone harboring the slightest ill-will; alongside them are Enforcers, jaded Inspectors that have become latent criminals, granted relative freedom in exchange for carrying out the Inspectors' dirty work.

Into this world steps Akane Tsunemori, a young woman with an honest desire to uphold justice. However, as she works alongside veteran Enforcer Shinya Kougami, she soon learns that the Sibyl System's judgments are not as perfect as her fellow Inspectors assume. With everything she has known turned on its head, Akane wrestles with the question of what justice truly is, and whether it can be upheld through the use of a system that may already be corrupt.

Overall:

The premise of Psycho-Pass is so unbelievable good that I need to applaud to the studio that came up with this great and simple Idea. Let's imagine we lived in a world where we could determine the potential of every human being trough a simple scan. You would be told your aptitude for certain jobs, the extent of your latent abilities, and the likelihood of mental instability and the capacity to commit crimes. This is the setting of Psycho-Pass. The Anime could be considered as a futuristic and dark version of Detective Conan. We follow a Futuristic kind of Police through their work solving crimes while delving deeper and deeper into the shadowy sides of this new society.

The Best part about the Anime is the incredibly good cast of characters. The fact that none of these characters are insignificant or unimpactful enough to dismiss is quite a feat, but Psycho Pass gives each and every character depth and relevance to the main plot.

Psycho-Pass addresses a lot of philosophical issues through incredible good storytelling, great pacing and an almost human-like cast of characters. Psycho-Pass constantly leaves it's viewers on the edge of their seats, with plot twists and interesting shifts in the story.

The Art of the Anime is somewhat different from the other Animes, but that is actually a good thing. This Bold and dark art style fits the dark mood of the Anime perfectly.

Conclusion:

Psycho-Pass can and should be considered a masterpiece on many different levels. The show delivers a great plot with almost human like characters that are deep and complex like every one of us, the amount of tension and drama that is created throughout the series is great. Psycho-Pass is truly something that has never been this well done.
