Orange is the new black is a crime comedy-drama based on a true-life story of Piper Kerman on her experience being in prison for a year (though other fictional ideas were added by the writers)

The story stares Taylor Shilling as Piper Chapman as the lead actor along with other casts like Alex, Tasty, Suzanne (crazy eyes), Tiffany, Aleida, Daya, Red, and Larry.

In the first of episode of the opening season (season 1) we got to see Piper Chapman as a young gentle soul who can't hurt a fly and was named by her ex-lover Alex to be a part of her drug gang, (Piper once helped in transporting drug money to Alex out of love). And this leads to the imprisonment of Piper Chapman for fifteen months. Her stay in prison changes her from being a soft young woman in her early thirties to someone tough that was compelled to do unthinkable things in order to survive. Piper had a fiancé Larry who stood by her as she was getting imprisoned. But do they love stands the test of time surrounding the difficulty of Piper being in prison? Is something you will find out when you watch this TV series for I don't want to be a movie spoiler

At the initial stage, we got to see Alex like a devil but as the character develops, we got to know that's there is a human behind the Alex character same goes for all the hardened characters in the series. We saw characters like Tiffany, crazy eyes who were quite annoying at the beginning but at the end won the heart of if not every, most viewers.

This TV series is a movie that brought various races together also as we saw the Spanish, the blacks, whites, Egyptians, Asians, and co. Orange is the new black shows the reality of what convicts and ex-convicts have to face in life. It dwelled on a female prison facility, we saw various mischiefs and inhumane treatment of correctional officers to inmates. And we got to see how a private sector/firm that came running the prison turned the prison from bad to worst. Inmates dying in prisons and little care were given to them because they were seen as animals and not humans.

We also saw injustice by the system, how the less privilege and people of color are been maltreated and sentence unfairly for a crime they didn't commit or a crime they did with an outrageous sentence.

This movie really shaped my thinking and I am glad I did watch it. Before now I see prisoners as people paying for a crime but watching the TV series I realize prison shouldn't just be a punishment zone but a rehabilitation center and the name "correctional facility" it bears should be for something. People in prison should be given basic amenities and right to a good lawyer and fair trial for it's their rights as humans.

Because in the past six seasons and currently in season seven (the last season of OITNB) I realize that most of the characters(prison inmates) that were gentle-natured, in the beginning, end up being hardened and only a few numbers became better. It was just a case of prison destroying lives rather than rehabilitating lives.

This series also shows us that life after prison for ex-convicts wasn't easy. In getting a job/ good financial ground. Discrimination from society, people not wanting to associate with an ex-convict. We got to see in Orange is the new black, that just a single mistake in life can make one a prison inmate so we should try to live rightly, for prison isn't funny and also we should learn and try to give ex-convicts a chance in life.
