"Columbiana" by Olivier Megaton - movie review
"Columbiana" is not the dumbestthat has come out of the pen of the once-respected Luc Besson, but from his recent titles, he most clearly illustrates the fact that for a certain time we are told, and the same movie. The story is as follows: Cataleya (Zoe Saldana) is a young woman who seeks vengeance on her parents' death. At age nine, she witnessed the murder of her family from a Colombian criminal boss. Having escaped, she finds shelter with her uncle Emilio (Cliff Curtis), a famous gangster who takes her under his wing. Fifteen years later, Cataleya is a skilled assassin with one goal - to get to the man who killed her parents.
Of course, we can not expect "Columbiana" to be a one-to-one Besson with a particular bullsh*t, but if you were looking at that-you just can not help noticing that the individual elements of the story to one are taken from pre-existing movies and they are just as diverse as it is not super bold. But as long as the storyline can, in one way or another, get out of it - to add something here, to get out or to swap there, that's not the hero. Alas, no matter how much you change them and change your skirt, they are still the same - from a cliché to something more . And on top of all, the actors who perform them are just the ones you expect. I only wonder how Joe de Almeida did not take the Boss. Another major problem with the film is that it requires a bit more "suspension of disbelief" than let's say one of Jason Statham's axes, and that's a lot. In the prologue, where Little Cataleya escapes from the villains, a prologue that is unnecessarily long (probably about a third of the film), things are more impossible than in the "Three Little Ninjas".
Here those who have set themselves up for Bresson naphthalene themes and ideas from a time when the words realism and credibility are something dirty, would say that all this is not of paramount importance, as long as there is action. Well, there is action, except where it is recycled. One of the best battles is "Bourne" total rip-off. And one more thing, how do the so-called naked guys for orders of the kneeling hunters work as parkour masters? Nowhere, frankly, I'm tired of jumping ... as John McClane calls them "spooked miserable." Apart from these things, as I said at the beginning, "Columbiana" is not one of the most tragic things you can see. Technically, the movie is okay, it looks good, there are one or two things that are worth it - the first murder in the prison for example - and Saldana seems appropriate for the role. I'm not saying she plays well, but that she is right and she is going away. The most important thing, however, is that despite its shortcomings, the film does not offend the intellect, which in our time is a real success. After all, if you fall on the Besson nonsense, look at "Columbiana" better than another Jason Statham.

This picture is probably one of the few that I have seen in recent times, where time flies very quickly, there are no unnecessary dialogues, there is no frank boredom, it all happens very quickly and clearly on the case. I waited from the tape for an absolutely smaller one, I was expecting a pretty simple action movie, but I got a pretty realistic film, I think thank you should tell Luc Besson and of course the director that made the film closer to life, even if you look at the tricks, fights, chases and shooting , then this is done quite professionally and believably.
