¿You know Joe Black? a romance film like no other
Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I've reviewed a film but when I saw it I couldn't resist it, this romantic film is without a doubt a masterpiece of romance and eroticism, long before there were 50 shadows of Grey, she managed to seduce the audience with her romance and fantasy, thus becoming a film to remember.
Synopsis:
William "Bill" Parrish is a successful tycoon, who as his 65th birthday approaches, begins to see his mortality, so he encourages his youngest daughter Susan to find true love and to leave his comfort zone, shortly after that he begins to hear voices saying "Yes", this voice grows louder and louder to the point of disturbing him, while his daughter Susan meets a peculiar man who leaves him delighted with his encounter, After this this man has an accident, and in the house the voice continues to haunt Bill this time to open the door, reluctantly accepts and ends up meeting with the entity this confirms his greatest suspicion he is dead and now should be the guide of the entity ("Death"), which took the body of the young man who met Susan, now that it will bring the family that houses this mysterious young man?
Character analysis:
The first character we are introduced to is Bill Parrish, this business tycoon, who, with the burden of the years, already cares deeply for his family, especially if his eldest daughter is in a conformist relationship with his current partner Drew, suddenly his life is turned upside down when he meets a peculiar young man, who claims to be death, with his life at stake he serves as a guide for this entity, although at first he is afraid of it, at the end he decides to face it to protect his daughter and tries to make it come to his senses when he says he wants to take her away.
Susan Parrish, is a young doctor who between her work and her family doesn't leave much room for romance, she meets a handsome man in the cafeteria near her hospital, she is immediately shocked by him, then she sees him again at home with his father although at first she was reluctant because of his relationship with Drew, She begins to know Joe, who although different from the one she knew before, doesn't take long to fall in love and when he was about to leave he begs her to take her with him but changes his mind after realizing he wasn't the same guy she knew before.
Joe Black, first appears as a charming young man, who has just arrived in the city and luckily has an emotional encounter with Susan, when he leaves this is run over and death takes his body, this entity is truly fascinated with earthly life so he does not hesitate much to get close to Susan and the more time he spends with her the more human he becomes to the point of falling in love with her.
Andrew, Bill's young partner, is a man very dedicated to his work and earns Bill's trust, but all this turns out to be a farce, he entered the company to sell it to the highest bidder and his relationship with Susan was a trick to get close to Bill, he is eventually discovered and fired by the board of directors.
Allison Parish, is Bill's oldest daughter, although Susan is the Parish, and in the end Bill tells her that he is proud of her and that he loves her, she organized Bill's birthday party which was a success. Her husband is the one who was manipulated by Andrew to tell the board that Joe Black was giving orders to Bill to expel him from the company.
Analysis of the relationship between the characters:
- Bill and Joe: it's the most remarkable relationship in history, although at first they begin with some fear, Bill soon gets used to the company of this mysterious being and after he learns of his advances with Susan he doesn't hesitate to confront him, even though these two had their differences in the end Bill leaves with death without regret or doubt.
- Joe and Susan: When they met in the cafeteria the chemistry was instantaneous, but then when Joe took that person's body, at first he confuses it with his cold attitude, and this changes when Joe shows his thoughtful and seductive attitude that soon ends up making Susan and him fall in love in the process.
Conclusion:
In this film we can see an anthropomorphism of death, like no other, making reference to earthly life and death, curious and charming, death was a real enigma for the public but seeing it was entertaining no more than listening to the wisdom of Bill as for example:
I know it sounds a little corny. But love is passion, obsession, not being able to live without someone. Look, lose your mind, find someone to love like crazy and love you the same way. How to find him? Forget the intellect and listen to the heart, I don't hear that heart. Because the truth is, child, living without it doesn't make any sense. To grow old without really falling in love, in short, is like not having lived. You have to try, because if you don't try, you won't have lived.
This phrase has a great meaning because it refers to love as such, and tells us that we have to look for it constantly, also other phrases like:
I have had the opportunity to witness all kinds and styles of deception, but William Parrish has been the target of machinations as Machiavellian as I have rarely seen. And yet, he has fought them stoically without rebelling against my identity.
You will no longer count the days and months and years, but the millennia in a place from which there is no way out.
In short, this film has been a sea of emotions that I would like to see again, of course, I hope you liked my post and I hope you enjoy watching this film until the next one.
