An Evening Out

in #restaurant6 years ago

We all know that eating out in restaurants are expensive. And if you are like me, where every dollar counts, then such occasions are reserved for when the moon is blue. However, restaurants sometimes do promotions and special offers. You might have to look a bit harder, and have a bit of patience, but every now and then, one does come across some very good deals.

Janet, an old classmate of mine came across such a deal in ‘Chope’. (‘Chope’ is a real time restaurant-reservation booking platform which connects diners iwth its partner restaruants.) The deal was a one-for-one seafood buffet dinner at ‘Four Points Eatery by the Shearton’. This was a couple of weeks ago. I think this particular promotion has ended, but there are always other promotions. By the way, I am not trying to prmote Chope.

Good things in life must be shared. So, Janet, decided that she will organized a gathering. She managed to round up fourteen of our schoolmates from Primary Six. So, fourteen – some already senior, (60 years), some a couple of months short of being senior citizens – met up for dinner one evening.

A couple of pictures to tantalize your taste buds.

Oh, I forgot to say how much I had to pay for the meal. I don’t know what the actual amount was after the plus, plus, but after the one-for-one discount, and another 10% discount when you pay by Visa, each of us paid only $30. With that, you also get half a pint of beer, and half a lobster. I think half a lobster and half a pint of beer would have cost more than $30 dollar in a mediocre restaurant. Now is that a good deal or what? Maybe not a good deal, but an excellent deal!

Now, what do fourteen ‘seniorly’ citizens who were primary schoolmates talked about when they got together. Well, let’s see. We talked about jobs, (most of them are doing quite well in their jobs and fields), we lamented about what’s happening in the world, in the country, we talked about children, (like all proud parents do). We reminisced about the ‘good old kampong days’. They seem like not so long ago, when in fact it was 50 years ago! It’s actually a totally different era all together.

So, we were generally, catching up on what’s the latest in our lives. Oh yes, we talked about who has most hair, and who has the most black hair. We talked about knee pains and back aches, high blood pressures and high cholesterol and other elderly ailment while munching on the delicious food while we still have teeth. We reckoned we will be talking about walking sticks very soon. One thing we all agreed upon is that we will all age gracefully. With that, we toasted our 60th birthday!

Time passes quickly when you are having fun. We didn’t have time to talk to every one at the table. It will have to be another time. All in all, it was an excellent evening. It was easy camaraderie. And it should be. We were childhood friends, and although 50 years had gone by, most of us still have the same characteristics. Most of us hadn’t change much. So, good, cheap food and excellent company - it sure was an enjoyable evening.

Just a group of senior folks having a night out, celebrating their 60th birthday!

What an enjoyable story about an evening out with old friends, and some tantalizingly delicious photos too!

Thank you for taking time to comment, and for your continued support. It is very much appreciated.
I thought I would take a break from the quotes and post something different. Cheers!

I'm glad you enjoyed your meal, it looks wonderful if you like that sort of stuff. The only seafood I can eat is fish and shrimp. I actually have to leave the room when my wife cooks crabs and such. I like chicken, not beef to much. I love stir-fry though!

Thank you for dropping by, and for you comment. Are you allergic to seafood apart from fish and shrimp? Stir fry is good. :-)

No, just don't like the taste at all, and that's an understatement.
I do love crab-cakes if cooked right though. It's almost like if I can't smell it, it's okay.
One of my earliest memories as a small child is getting very very sick after eating oysters, I was delirious, it was like everything was moving and speed up a lot. I may be allergic, or just got a bad one, but they are repulsive to me now.
