Irresponsible behavior
Today morning has been a furious one for me. I do not understand sometimes that the literate people behave more illiterately and why do they behave like that. I received a complaint from the transport manager of my company and he asked me to look into the matter on urgent basis. The complaint was that the people who are using the company bus have been very carelessly using the facility. They have been carelessly leaving the bottles and paper cups in the bus.
It's ok to use things in the vehicle but I fail to understand why people cannot take away their mess with them and why do they have to leave it behind for others to clean it. We have no separate cleaner for the bus so eventually it was bus driver and the transport coordinator who cleaned it up. They brought the matter late to me; else I would made the people using the bus only clean up the space. Because if they are creating the mess, then they need to clean it up as well.
At large people behave irresponsibly in outdoor spaces. In their home they will keep everything clean, but once they are out, they do not bother where their garbage is being thrown. Even when I go to the beach, I see so much litter around, especially the plastic water bottles and paper cups, which you can see here also. If one cannot dispose it off well, then they should not use it only in the first place. This is one thing that makes me very furious.
Look at how much mess was cleaned up :(
Sometimes when I am outdoors and I see anyone creating mess, I always point it out to them. There have been people who have had the audacity to tell me, mind your own business. I wanted to slap them. Now with this incident, I have given a strict warning to all those who are using this transport facility, that in future if I find this mess, then I am going to put financial penalty on everyone, then I would not see who has messed it up. It will be collective punishment for everyone. So in that manner even if one person is doing it, the others will stop them else everyone has to pay the penalty.
Phewww.....these are the things that I do not like to address in my job, but it's a part and parcel of it.

@nainaztengra, I completely feel your frustration! It's baffling how some people lack basic respect for shared spaces. That photo of the bus is just disheartening. I admire your proactive approach, especially confronting litterers directly and implementing the collective responsibility system for the company bus. Sometimes, a little "tough love" is needed to encourage mindful behavior. I hope your stern warning changes things.
This is a great reminder for us all to be conscious of our impact and to speak up when we see others being careless. Keep shining a light on these important issues! What other strategies have you found effective in promoting responsible behavior in shared spaces? Thanks for sharing!
