New Years Resolution #1: SteemCleaners

Our place here on the STEEM blockchain, on Steemit and on whatever frontend or app that you use and support, is an investment. It's an investment in time, in opportunity, often in our own money. Every moment spent on composing a post or responding to another person is a moment that isn't used for something else. That something else can be another means of revenue generation, another creative outlet, time with family, a hobby, all sorts of things.

Time is finite for us. There's always money to be made in one place or another, there's always opportunities that we can make or can be presented to us. Every country and industry has its own potential. But time, which is a constantly-dwindling resource irrespective to one's longitude and latitude at any given segment of it, is finite. Can't replace it, can't return it once it's gone. Dedicating it to something is the riskiest investment you can make. So where does all this play into one another?

If the STEEM blockchain had a Hours Played setting, it'd show you a number that'd surpise you. 72 hours, 450 hours, 4503 hours. That's 187 days. So why spend them digging through a shit mountain? No one wants to dig through it, no one wants to invest in it. It's just a shit mountain. No one wants to have their posts buried underneath piles of copy/pasted trash, much of it by scammers with a rat's nest of accounts all set up with the sole goal of obtaining money they did not earn.

New Year's Resolution: Effectively Contribute to the SteemCleaners Initiative

This month myself (Patriot) joined the @SteemCleaners project. It's a steep learning curve but once you're in you see the impact that SteemCleaners have on the platform. Returning ill-begotten funds to the reward pool, stopping accounts who steal content from hard-working bloggers, you name it. So your investment in time is a bit better rewarded. So your utility is increased. So your thoughts, which you spent maybe 27 minutes, maybe 2.7 hours, setting on the screen, formatting, tagging, aren't stolen by someone who profits off them and that plagiarists and ID thieves aren't getting the payouts which you deserve.

All personalized comments on posts that require them will be and have been made from the @guiltyparties account. I don't hit and run and I try not to be a dick. I don't flag those who direct message me without first asking permission or any of that shit. Everyone here knows where to find me by now and anyone who needs a hand getting their blog reconfigured so they're producing original content and doing their time investment justice is welcome to send me a message day or night.

I've tried to support services like @steemcleaners, @spaminator, etc for this very reason. All one must do to see the problem is go to the "new" feed and try to sort through posts for quality material.

I used to go there and try to find new users and give one new person a decent upvote a few times per week but it became so difficult to find quality material I began to see it as a waste of that precious time you spoke of in your post.

So yes, supporting @steemcleaners is a great idea. I send small donations to services like this and witnesses every so often but lately I've been hoarding my SBD's because of the spike in price. Maybe I need to make a donation soon or set them on an auto voter or something.

Shaping this platform into something with the majority of the content being worth reading is going to be a monumental task. I don't have any of my own time to contribute but what I can contribute is funds and hopefully that will be helpful.

That's a great resolution! Best of luck to you with the rest of your resolutions in the new year and I hope you're having a good holiday week.
