I think I’m going to take this week to go through a whole chapter in the Bible and explain it thoroughly. The chapter I’d like to discuss is chapter 38 of Genesis.

Rather than quote the boring stuff I’ll summarize the beginningGenesis 38:1-6:
Judah married the daughter of a Canaanite. The canaanite was named Shuah. The nameless daughter bore Judah three sons: Er, Onan, and Shelah. Judah eventually bought Er, a wife named Tamar.

I just want to make a quick aside here for those whiners who claim women never get names in the Bible. Tamar, gets a name.

Genesis 38:7:
And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

It’s important to note that we aren’t told what Er did to earn the moniker of “Wicked”. Our imagination can run rampant with wild theories as to Er’s wickedness. For example, he was possibly one of the 50,070 people smited because some curious men of Bethshemesh 1 Samuel 6:19 looked into the ark of the covenent.

Whatever the reason for Er’s smiting, I’m sure he deserved it! In The Jesus’s eyes.
