Absurdity of Religions

in #religion7 years ago

Let's just imagine that nuclear war happens and wipes out everything and small human communities emerge after many years of hiding and they have to rebuild and relearn everything, but there are no signs of old world's religions. What would of happen to the people in the future, would they create a new religion, or would they become more scientific. I would imagine they would become the same as we are today, some are religious, some are not.

2000 years from now..

Science will always be the same, the same laws of physics will be there, the same hydrogen and oxygen atoms, math and chemistry will be the same. You can't change the laws of physics, they are constant and unchangeable, over the years those futuristic people would discover what we did.

Religions, however, will be something brand new made up again if old scripture would get erased. So there are no old books available and people from future can only find artifacts of small blue people.

It would be very easy to imagine that the people from the future in their early years would create a brand new Smurf religion, and Papa Smurf would be a futuristic version of Jesus, Muhamed, Shiva, or whatever superstition you are worshiping in today's society. Gargamel would be a brand new Satan, and cats would be considered as hell hounds. That depiction of my vision would be extremely violent towards cats (see what I did there). Poor critters would be erased in a matter of years.

Religions can help some to find their peace and that's cool, but when religions get violent and impose their beliefs and indoctrinate from the young age, specially when you know it is all made up, an invention if you will (like the future blue man religion in my story), why would anyone rational be a member of such a community today?

Sort:

Reminds me of this.

I've seen this long time ago, it was probably implanted in my head and inspired me to write this one day :)

I completely agree with you on this and love your example. Not everyone might appreciate your look on these things and I guess some of that is to do with what they've been taught since birth. Religion is a way of coping with the world, which is fine by me. It become a whole different story when it creates violence, which is too often the case. To me, that's a coping method gone too far. But then again, that's also what religion helps with. Controling the masses.

Agree, but as Richard Dawkins said many times, we must make fun of religions because only then we shall see some progress and more people should wake up from the deep slumber.

Yeah, would be nice to see them become less and less influential. What people choose to believe is not my business, but when it affects others in a bad way, we should speak up.

Absolutely. I understand that some third world countries that are far behind can't be changed that easy, for them it will be a long process of healing from their wrong belief systems, but to see modern 1st world countries that have so many backwards religious people it is sad. Systematic indoctrination of churches is what needs to be fixed. You can't expect everyone to be a scientist, at least let's be rational and in tune with reality.

It surprises me too that there are so many people in 1st world countries who are this fanatical about religion. It's just hard for me to understand, because I always rely on logic and believing in something unseen and unproven is just so weird to me. Especially when the alternative (Someone made it up to more easily control the masses or to make sense of a weird world back when science wasn't this advanced) is so much more likely and logical.

Indoctrination is not easily dispelled. When you live your whole life with a belief that there is a god, heaven and hell, that is not something that people want to change. And if someone tries to tell them the alternative which is, as you said way more logical, they go full defensive and aggressive about it. World has way too many problems, religion is one of the bigger ones that needs to be fixed if we want to move forward and improve our civilization.

Definitely. It just brings so much extra diversity, while this world already has way too much of that for how small it has become due to technology.

I think you focus too much on religion. Religion is not bad. People, especially when clustered in some "church", like "The church of Jesus" are what make bad things happen.

There is a part of fantasy novel I always found... interesting.

Some people have been made to worship an evil god, human sacrifice etc.
The knights rush in but don't kill them (if they don't resist).
Instead those people are told:
You are idiots. You believe what false prophets told you. You are like children and like children you should worship. From now on the only sacrifice you are allowed to do are flowers!

Groups of people indoctrinated by the scripture is what is wrong, if the scripture is old and has no connections with the modern world or reality, why do we need it, and why can't people just discard it and move on? Religion for the most people is not that bad, it should be bad only if you value the truth, and the truth is that religions are fake news before fake news even existed. Religions had gone way beyond fake and became a new reality for so many people for two thousand years and who knows how many more years to come.

Calling religion fake news is mixing up things badly (and with bad result). Also in their time the holy scriptures were progressive. But of course after 2000 years most things get very old.

It's a joke, meta joke, meant to amuse people in april of 2017. But fake and false and built on thousands of years of lies, that's a goddamn truth.

The problem with you atheist is that you believe in the words and wisdom of man and scientist and not our creator God.
It will be to your detriment, the truth is revealing.

Reality check, it's not god who said anything, men did. Men from bronze age.

I will never be ashamed of myself for not believing in someone's imaginary friend. The trick to avoiding falling victim to mass psychosis is being sharp enough to identify it when you see it right in front of you.

Tell your God He/She/It shall come to my house and sell me a subscription to dog food.

If He/She/It manages that I will believe in Him/Her/It.

Should not be that hard for a omnipotent being.

btw: Why should an omnipotent being interested in you puny human? You are BORING! You can't even accept your own wisdom of man!

Those men you talking about, thier words was inspired by God and the holy spirit. So its God speaking. Only thru faith can you please God, and only then will he revel himself. Gods work is done on earth, he has literally done everything for you. Even gave you eternal life. But you have to seek him with your whole mind, body and soul. God will defend your free will to the grave.

A bunch of mumbo jumbo from my perspective. There are so many logical flaws in those sentences I can't even. JESUS!

I have just been reading all these comments, and it's easy to have a negative discussion with opposing views. You believe in what you believe, and I believe in Jesus Christ. Pretty simple and we can agree to disagree. No problem here. But from my stance, I have always wondered if any of you have had any supernatural experiences, or played with any occult devices such as a ouija board. From my faith I'm in no way promoting the use of such things, but whether you choose to believe my own accounts and experiences, I have battled with demons and defeated them through Jesus Christ's name... as fantastical and scientifically illogical as that may sound to those who believe me to be brainwashed,

Sometimes I think it takes extreme demonic activity being subjected to someone in denial of Jesus Christ, in order for them to recognize the ongoing spiritual battle of good and evil happening for all of our souls. But I'm not here to convince you, just to raise questions and share the gospel, which I am sure you know already of Jesus Christ sacrifice for human kind's sins. From any perspective, believer or non believer, I do believe it is an interesting account of how many satanists, atheists and non believers end up accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord & Saviour if they ever found themselves on their death bed and with enough conscious mind intact to make that final decision before they parted into the next stage of life after death. Now, that doesn't mean I am not considering others considering other deities that they would worship before they died, but specifically from my faith stance, which is why I use Jesus Christ as He is the way the truth and the life.

Interesting discussion to say the least :)

You could of defeated the same demons with power of almighty psychosis pills. For the sake of argument, what would you do if you've never heard of almighty Jesus Christ, would you think the same? It is not moral to prey on the dying, during their end moments they can have their wishy-washy thoughts before they die. Nothing can change my mind though, my thoughts are backed by the science and rational thinking. It is not rational to think there are demons around, metaphorically or physically. It is not rational to think there is a heaven or hell, or any god. Religion always brings interesting discussions and so different point of views.

With regards to your first belief on defeating those demons with psychosis pills, I completely disagree. Demons do have a direct correlation with the mentally insane but I do not believe anyone who believes in demons is diagnosed as unstable and crazy. We can agree to disagree on that since it seems you've never encountered a spiritual multi-dimensional being.

If I never heard of Jesus Christ, I would most likely be a non-believer. Point blank period. So I am blessed to have the faith since I do know of Him and His sacrifice.

I guess I'll just have to wait and die to see all of us at the same judgement day. There won't be any time for us to tell each other "I told you so" or from your perspective, "See there is no God." I don't know where your beliefs lead one after death. But I do not dispute the rationality and backing of science, however science cannot disprove God, and in your eyes "prove God exists" yet He does but He transcends scientific reasoning for that very reason, because science is a limitation of human understanding which cannot grasp the complexities of the Almighty Father. Something you and I completely disagree upon which is what it simply is.

Interesting how I share my thoughts, and get attacked immediately. Logical flaws you say, according to your logic. You want to understand God with your mind, so it can be logical. If you cant see it or feel it, or understand it, or science and math explain it, then its discarded. Mans wisdom is stupidity for God, God will even take that wisdom and turn it against itself to prove its false. God is only understood when you understand it with your mind and heart, or soul. And only thru faith it can be real and understood in the soul. People are so concerned with this life, what about eternity after life ? Believe as you will, its your free will anyway, but now just maby if you are wrong and die and stand before God, you cant say you didnt know. The Bible is the key to life, manly wisdom is the key to death. Jesus Christ is Lord.
