The gospel of Thomas is canonical in some Christian churches. Futhermore, Christianity's roots seem to be in Gnosticism...
Christian gnosticism came during the end of 1st century and later and was not part of the original gospel - as Paul preached it. It came to corrupt it and a main result was strong influence in Roman Catholic Church and some other christian sects.
