Love! A feeling of strong emotions. Everyone seem to have an idea of what it is all about but many atimes we confuse falling in love with growing in love. We seek to fall in love even when love has always been right there besides us. There is a difference between falling in love and growing in love. The movies have painted love as that sudden outburst of emotion that happens suddenly on coming in contact with a total stranger. They call it love at first sight. While the movie kind of love happens with that magical moment and special person, I hate to tell you that such falling is in infatuation and not love.
Falling in love is sudden and as sudden as it is so it is also to fall out. This is why it is common to hear people say they are in love with two women at the same time. Falling in love is simply falling for the outer appearance and the charms. It is a mix of chemicals firing off and expectations being met. It knocks you off your feet and you may end up being bruised. You cannot love someone you don't know. You fall in love with someone after you have gotten to know some attributes they possess that appeals to you.

Love doesn't just appear out of thin air. It is created. It grows. When you grow in love, it transcends beyond the physical appearance to a desire to see them succeed and grow. You see past their flaws. You have been through thick and thin but your feelings remain unshaken. When you grow in love, your love has been tested and proven and only then can you say you love someone. This is the kind of love that can be found among families and friends. They have seen you in your best and worst but they still find a reason to want to stay connected.
If you say you are in love and the reasons why you are in love is because he's cute or she's great at sex and not because he makes you happy or she has a good heart then you need to understand that it is simply infatuation. Growing in love is the real falling in love. It is not sudden, it is a conscious effort made to continue loving despite the good, bad and ugly.
When you grow in love , you have a strong desire to motivate and encourage each other. Love is a connection not an attachment. When you grow in love, such love is borne out of genuine appreciation and respect. You discover the real reasons you love someone overtime. Growing in love means it is more than sexual compatibility, it is emotional compatibility. This is why you can stay naked with each other for a week in same house and not think of sex let alone have it. Here you have become best friends more than you are lovers.

The only way to have a long lasting relationship is to grow in love. This is why dating your best friend is often advised because such a person has grown to love you and you have grown to love him/her too. Don't seek for the butterflies in the stomach when you meet someone, seek for that smile that comes to your face when you remember someone. Let us all learn to grow in love.
To me, it's just a matter of diplomatic technicality, falling in love and growing in love is still the same and has the same end result. It doesn't have to be one way.
