BFFs - BEST FRIENDS FOREVER

A friend of mine asked me a question recently and I had to read extensively on the topic before coming up with this post. We know BFF means Best Friends Forever and people do question if there are truly friends that stay together forever especially if they are of the opposite sex. Well, there are friends that last forever as long as there are limits and understanding.

Limits are like road bumps, this is to help caution our character as friends and know what we can accept from each other. If I have a temperamental friend, I know I have to be cautious of taking things to the extreme to avoid outburst. If outburst eventually come up, understanding will make me to know “two wrongs don’t make a right.” During the outburst, I stay calm to listen to the tone behind and settle. So when it is my turn to be angry, I expect a calm reply. The main problem with BFF of opposite sex is having feelings/sex. Are BFFs supposed to have sex? What will happen if they eventually have sex?

The most important thing in BFF is the friendship. Without it, the other BF can be Bye Forever. There are so many things to avoid and endure to make friendship last in recent times. When one of the BFFs grow feelings for the other, it should be tabled out and expressed. People tend to behave sheepishly when they try to bottle up feelings which may be misinterpreted by the other party. Experts said the best relationship starts from friendship, this means you can initiate a beautiful relationship with your BFF and eventually still be friends. Feelings shouldn't be bottled but understanding plays a lot. You need to observe carefully that your BFF truly likes you before making a move so that you won’t be a fool when you table out the issue.

A motivational speaker once said, if you ask someone out and he/she turns you down, it doesn’t mean that is the end of the friendship. It just means you are not on the same page yet. This means if your BFF doesn’t accept your dating proposal, don’t end the friendship because of that. Make sure the friendship stays, it shows how much you value the friendship. To the BFF that turned down the proposal, don’t make your friend feel bad. We handle our feelings differently, don’t make a scene and call for the end of the friendship. You can actually laugh about it and that’s all. The most important thing is seeking for each other’s happiness.

To the sex part, sex means a lot of things to different people. Some people see it as a physical contact, others say it is emotional while the rest are confused what it means to them. When BFFs tend to have sex, people expect war to happen but it shouldn’t. For whatsoever reason(s) it has happened, it should be respected. BFFs have sex as favors, miscalculation and vulnerability. Whichever the reasons should be, emotions may run deep but maturity should run deeper. If it is a one-time thing, it can be overlooked but if it continues, it means BFF is switched to FWB (friends with benefit).

Be a BFF with a matured, understanding person. You must have the same or almost the same philosophies and ideologies. Communicate openly and privately to create connection. Respect and be loyal to create boundaries. Be truthful and honest to a bit. Let people know that friendship can last forever as long as marriage can if two individuals truly want the friendship instead of pretense and backbiting.
