Would you stop using Steemit if your government made it illegal?
Earlier I was reading another Steemit user talking about how she was sad some people in Latin America can't use cryptocurrencies because they have been made illegal, I immediately had a negative reaction because I don't think we should be giving up so easily.
Is it enough for the government to say something is illegal for us to abandon it? Why not declare peace illegal then? Why not declare hospitals illegal?
Cryptocurrencies are the law, the code is the law and those who participate in these networks are submitting to these laws.
Of course governments are going to make laws against something that could possibly take their place!
We need to drill in people's heads that governments don't own the Internet, they don't own our ideas, they don't own us and they can't control us.
We don't have to be enemies, governments can continue to exist with cryptocurrencies they just need to step up their game and provide better services. Instead they would prefer to imprison and kill the competition because their system is probably so twisted that they can't see a way to improve it without them losing the game completely.
But to any institutions or agencies that may be reading this now...you're digging your own grave by trying to make cryptocurrencies illegal. The more you try to keep people away from this technology the faster the word gets out that you have no control in reality.

Well, I would probably develop SteemTor, but I wouldn't stop.
I probably won't stop posting on steemit even if they kill me.
I am not sure how I would go about reading and replying, that takes a lot of time of being in one spot.
I am pretty sure that T.H.E.Y. will shut down the internet.
It is the kind of thing that they know how to do, err.. the only thing they know how to do.
I am also very sure that the entire interwebs will be replaced, seemingly overnight.
Fear is the tool that T.H.E.Y. have. If you give into the fear, you will just have more rights drained away. Until you are locked in a room, where you manufacture things, being rewarded with things to eat.
I told an anthropology professor a little while back that our electricity could be turned off with a button, she called me naive.
Employed by one of the most expensive universities where I grew up which makes me glad I decided not to enroll. I wouldn't want to pay for someone to call me naive and on top of that be completely wrong.
Still, I bet for cryptocurrencies because I bet for humanity. Even if the electricity is taken we will find a way back to blockchains again.

There have been too many classes where I taught the class, from the first row, or got all my art done in an economics class.
Or that time I argued with a physics professor that told me, in no uncertain terms, that I was completely wrong. The paper that came out later that week completely proved my point.

To be honest, probably not. It's really the only Social Media site I use. It's been way more fun interacting and posting on here for me.
Farmers in Latin America were one of the early adopters of bitcoin because of lack of faith in local currencies.
They would trade in supplies or bitcoin and, since it made a lot of "wrong" people rich, I'm not surprised they wanted to regulate it.
Like the times we went from monarchies to electoral democracy, they will put up a fight but things have to change... eventually...

I just posted your facial hair link on my fb friend's feed as a reply to one of his MANY posts about facial hair. It is every third post of his for months now. He used to be more interesting.
He's a tv addict and often his facial hair thoughts relate to the facial hair on the show he just watched.

And now for this post - I'm in SE Asia and get random sites sometimes blocked in the various countries. I'm concerned but not really as I feel like workarounds will be developed by the tech people involved in this place. I'm an optimist and always expect the best.
