Street Magic - 9 Recent Curb Recycling Finds Salvaged & Sold For $2,965 (178 Pounds Saved)

in #recycling4 years ago (edited)

Another 178 POUNDS personally salvaged from being destroyed and sold for $2,965 over the last couple of days.

Requirements: my bare hands, a screwdriver, cell phone, and a backpack.

How much have you saved or repurposed lately?

While Steem/Tron debates remain up in the air, I keep recycling to help the real concern -- our planet.

I've been finding good stuff lately and will be dedicating some time to getting those listings up. I'm in a good position now to ramp up again.

I had one blooper yesterday when I found a Jura IMPRESSA C9 automatic coffee machine that originally retailed for $3,500. The cord was cut, so I'd need to repair that to test it, and likely sell it for parts/repair anyway. By fluke, it accidentally fell when I had it resting on something and took a big hit to the outer shell. The internals are ok, but I'll now need to dissect its parts for a slightly more laborious process (which will make me more $ anyway). It was just annoying to find it, when they easily sell for a good amount used/parts, and my judgement error led to a 2 foot drop onto the sidewalk.

Last night, I also fully disassembled a Dyson DC26 vacuum turbine brush to fix and complete the full working set that'll easily sell for $120 cash. I've sold many of these and/or similar models. The previous lazy owner threw out the entire unit because of the nozzle getting hair caught in a gear. They could've replaced the jammed floor attachment for $30, but they threw the entire thing out to be a wasteful fool.

Curbs To Cash Finds:

Versaclimber Sport Model exercise machine sold for $2,600 CASH. Weight = 150 lbs.

I found this less than one block from my apartment and carried it home with no assistance. I then rolled it on a dolly to my storage unit 9 blocks away and sold it from there. I could've gotten $2,800 if I waited for a second buyer that was slower, but I secured the cash in hand.

Proof:

UPPAbaby umbrella stoller sold for $50 cash. Weight = 8 lbs.

I'm also in the processing of upselling the woman a $200 Roland keyboard from the curb since she loves what I do and lives nearby.

Fitness machine display panel sold online for parts for $80. Recycled shipping weight = 3 lb 15 oz.

This was the fourth and final part I took from this particular machine.

Vacuum power nozzle tested and sold online for $63. Recycled shipping weight = 3 lbs 13 oz.

Textbook sold online for $40. Recycled shipping weight = 7 lbs.

Textbook sold online for $38. Recycled shipping weight = 2 lbs 2 oz.

Stroller bar sold online for $34.50. Recycled shipping weight = 1 lb 5 oz.

Vacuum brushroll motor sold online for $34. Recycled shipping weight = 1 lb.

Coffee machine capsule tank sold online for $26. Recycled shipping weight = 1 lb.

Tonight, someone that recently visited to buy something is going out on the curbs with me so I can show them the ropes. After hearing about what I do, they're genuinely interested in the potential to make some money from recycling, and have been playing their cards right to show commitment. I think they have the right mindset to succeed with this, so I'll open up and share my tricks of the trade.

Day in and day out, recycling to help OUR environment is my priority. The world needs more people to take our global waste problem seriously. Sitting on the sidelines is the fastest way to prove that you don't care enough, and there's a price to pay for that. Just a few minutes a day makes a huge difference.

Some people talk, speculate, complain and/or are full of it....

Some just do the right thing.

I hope more people get the drift and take action. It's not that hard.

@steemmatt

Time to proudly take a nice afternoon nap, send some shipments, and then hit the gym. I worked out very hard for ~2 hours last night and my body needs to recharge. I'm being very diligent with my exercise and intake since over the last 2 months and the results are very inspiring. I can't wait for baseball.

God damn son! They just threw that thing out?!
the hell is wrong with these people!? :O

Yep. I have the pics to prove it too. Some rich people are either crazy, lazy or dumb... so I don't know how they got so rich.

This is just nuts man! I really can't understand at all. :O

"How much have you saved or repurposed lately?"

Not as much as you, sadly. I have been salvaging some of my family's and friends clothes. Re-hemmed a friend's dress, because she messed it up and would have thrown it out otherwise. Bleached the stains out of my daughter's vest top, because she refused to wear it with them and wanted to throw it out. I'm currently adjusting and repairing one of hubby's favourite hoodies, so does that half count, as I'm half done? 😆

Just remembered, I took some old cordless phones, no longer working, to someone who wanted them for their kids' activity boards. Does that count?

I can't believe what people throw out near where you live. I don't think people around here can afford most of those things to throw them out. Usually things are well and truly beyond you even wanting to touch them with a barge pole before they get kicked to the curb. Even then, some people still try to sell them on Facebook marketplace! 🤣

You have the spirit in you and do what you can. From the sound of it, you're quite resourceful and care. That talent and mindset will lead to lots of examples over time. My city is unique and I only handle a small fraction of the overall problem, but you're maximizing what you come across, which is something I could only dream of here.

Damn son!!! You are an animal. Love it! I was showing a customer of mine your fine work. He’s been getting into fixing up old typewriters. If you ever come across those, I might have a new outlet for ya.

What type of animal?? I have several decent vintage typewriters that could use a tune up. If they're serious, I can send some pics.

I'm just so enjoying your success.

Do the electronic payments for online sales trigger tax issues? Curious. :)

My online sales have sale tax managed and collected by eBay/PayPal. I most certainly am liable to pay my income tax on online sales and do so yearly with the help of the tax forms I receive.

Good deals! The stroller would be a maximum of 5€ which is 5.5$ in Germany. Mostly you can get it free in that condition.

The US is still the land of possibilities as Europe is strongly regulated in terms of litter, recycling and taxes. :)

Even an UPPAbaby stroller? That's a decently nice brand here in the US. If it was a generic umbrella folding stroller, I could understand your local dynamic, but that sounds so low for this brand. If you're right, wow, you have a tough market.

The first apprentice! Or maybe make them the first 'franchisee' 😀

Will look forward to hearing how this goes.

We spent almost 4 hours slow-walking out in the cold tonight. It was a nice time. He was very respectful and helpful. I'll write about it soon.

A good first test...

As I was writing this, another $75 item sold -- a Miele dishwasher part. I'll tack this on the next post.

I'm curious. When you test these items, do you have a spare model of all of these, or do you test them and if they work disassemble them to part out?

Love these posts, thank you.

Good question. I keep base units of popular models at my apartment (mainly vacuums) to test the batteries, power hoses, wands and power nozzles. There are a lot of repeats. Otherwise, I'll take the entire thing home if I can carry it to test what's practical to sell/ship, and part out/put the rest back outside. Otherwise, I'll take the loose parts I need to test and hold on to them until I find the rest what I need outside (again, since there are so many repeats).
