Terrible Toadstool Pizzas!
As my previous posts might have suggested it's my daughter's birthday. I was responsible for making a cake and whilst that was a hurdle in itself I also gotvolunteered to make everything else.
Such things as fearsome orange eyes
But one of the big hitters was the Terrible Toadstool Pizzas. A magic little recipe from the Gruffalo's cookbook. I thought I would share it!
You will need
For the pizza base
200 grams of plain flour
1 tablespoon of olive oil
120 mls warm water
1 teaspoon of oregano
2 teaspoons of baking powder
A pinch of salt
For the tomato sauce
2 tablespoons of tomato paste
2 tablespoons of hot water
To make
Get your oven on at 200 degrees.
Throw the ingredients for the pizza base together into a dough. Because this recipe doesn't use yeast there is no need to knead or rest it.
So you can get straight to rolling it out into shapes. Roll it flat
Then find a circle cutter of some description. I just use whatever is to hand. Usually an upturned glass.
Then the fun bit. Normally I would let my daughter join in but today was about speed. So I did it all myself. Cut out a stalk on each disc like so
Place them all on a baking tray
Now mix your tomato paste and water to make a tomato sauce and spread this with the back of a spoon over the tops of the toadstools
Add little balls of mozzarella to each one for the spots
Can you see the toadstool'ness!!!
Now fling them in the oven for twelve minutes.
Serve them up as part of your kids feast!!!
And make sure to have a nibble of some of the tasty blighters yourself!!!
Right, I promise it's back to spicy tomfoolery after this!!! :0)

I love 'em!
They were the thing that everybody liked the most!! Cheers kiddo!! ;0)
Those were such strange requests, but were all executed quite nicely! Nice idea making the cheese as the spots of the mushroom. Creativity in full display! I know it's only February, but you're already making great strides in your campaign to be Father of the Year :D
Haha, that would be a hilarious thing. Most of my efforts are ignored but I am in it for the long game!!!
Do I spy Chocolate Crispies there in the background - oh my childrens childhood just flashed in front of me and the parties we did for them - this looks such a fun party I am sure she had a great time:)
Wish my 17yr old would have a Gruffalo party next month instead of the Gatsby one planned, those toadstools look outstanding :)
Thank you!! And very well spotted. I tell you one of the advantages of kids parties is those little beauties. I think I ate far too many. They take me all the way back too!!
Hehe, a Gatsby party sounds excellent!
Arent you a clever daddy :)
Nah not at all, everything at her party was themed and taken from the Gruffalo's cookbook, I just cooked everything in it! :0D
Ov course you are, you should be proud of yourself, I would be if you were my dad :)
Hehe, I am a bit. Thank you very much!
Your welcome:)
I forgot to tell you that you have made an amazing food post! Cheers man!
Cheers dude, appreciate it!!
Cool. I like pizza and mushrooms)
Hehe, you could go wild and put mushrooms on the mushroom pizza!!
Looks so easy to eat that I cannot relate terrible to it.
Then that is most certainly a good thing!!
Mmmm! What a great idea! And i love the no yeast no knead or wait to rest the pizza dough !! I will make that for sure more homemade pizzas !! Thanks for shareing the recipe !!😉👍🍕🍕🍕
No bother Missy!! They are quite the tasty little critters!!
Very imaginative. I'm afraid to say it was just plain old sandwiches and sausage rolls and crisps at my daughter's recent birthday party, but I did make her a hamster cake, which was no easy task.
Sounds intriguing!!! I have never heard of a hamster cake!
It wasn't easy finding something online for inspiration either.
The demands of a six year old! I've done a Mr Tumble's waistcoat cake and a blue dinosaur. My 3 year old picks out the pink cakes from Sainsburys!
Waahaa!! Check that, that is awesome!
what fun! I love the toadstools. I'll take mine with some black olives and pepperoni please :D
That's the way I like my real pizzas. With a bug but of added chilli too!!
