Hey, I'm walkin here, Deeeep pan high protein pizza! Dairy free, meat free, 100% Vegan

In my chase of protein many years ago I started to make my pizza bases as high protein as possible. This has now lead me to a very dangerous cross roads. On the left is fatsville and on the right is leantown. Typically I stay true on my course but every now and then I just have to go to fatsville for a little naughty stop over. 


This pizza is HEAVY, I mean real heavy.

So now that the warning has been given lets get on with this bad boy!

Ingredients: (this makes 2 x 10" pizza pies)

Base:

  • 250g plain white flour, 250g quinoa flour.
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 sachet)
  • 1 Tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbs Olive oil
  • 500 ml Warm (not hot) water

Filling:

  • 500 ml Pasatta
  • 1 Tbs dried mixed herbs
  • 1 Tsp Garlic granules
  • 1 Tsp Onion powder
  • 1 Tsp Paprika
  • 1 Tsp Fresh ground black pepper
  • 2 TBS Nooch (nutritional yeast)
  • 1 Pack Quorn BBQ strips (or similar brand)
  • 1 Yellow Pepper

Base Method:

  1. Add the water, sugar and Yeast to a bowl, stir and leave to one side for 5 min.
  2. Add both of the flours, olive oil and salt to a food processor bowl and combine well.
  3. Add the now activated yeast mix to the bowl with the flower and with a dough hook mix well until combined
  4. Oil a new clean bowl and place the dough in the bowl, coat with the oil cover and leave to rise in a warm room
  5. Now the dough has risen its time to kneed!

  6. Flour a clean and dry work surface, turn the dough out of the bowl onto the flour, knead then cut in half.
  7. With a floured rolling pin shape the dough to the rough size of the pan you are using
  8. Lightly grease the pizza pan with some neutral oil, drape the dough over the pan and work into the base removing all air bubbles, Set aside

Filling Method:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl and combine well.
  2. Add a thick layer fo the filling to the base, then a layer of cheese (I used Violife mozzarella flavour)
  3. Add a layer of BBQ Buff strips, layer of pepper, then repeat until you have used everything.
  4. Finish with a layer of cheese
  5. Moonunit tip: Drizzle some flavoured olive oil over the cheese to help with melting! It works a treat!

Cooking:

Bake in a preheated oven at 180 Deg c for about 15 - 20 min, checking to make sure it doesn't go too crispy

Serving:

Serve with something equally filthy like onion rings and a big dirty glass of cola

Now, after eating, go for a nap or have some of my delicious Raspberry, white chocolate and macadamia nut cheeseless cake for afters. If you can handle it!

Haha, fatsville. It is quite easy to take a detour there every now and again. 😉

It truly is a wonderful place to visit, I don't think I could live there full time mind you.

Oh no, definitely feel much better residing in leantown. Fatsville is just a rare vacation spot. 🤣

Oh now you're talking. YES. This was everything I wanted it to be. So happy about this! I wonder.. could I swap out the plain white flour for almond flour? Simply to avoids fatsville. I wonder how that would turn out?

I've never used the almond, would the taste be an issue? You could go all out on the quinoa that would put it at about 14g protein per 100 and quinoa contains all essential amino acids too. Almond or peanut flower would be great too a dessert pizza though. Mmmmm dessert pizza!

LOL, yeah, you have to keep people reading. Plus who doesn't love a trip to fatsville? No way I could live there mind you, I had to do an extra 20 mins on the bike on Monday morning to work that pie down!
