My Regular DApp Test - Face off: eSteem vs Partiko
Hello everyone!
Weekend is already approaching and I wish you all have a wonderful rest and great relax and restoration!
Since #steemfest is now counting down with bout 19 days left, I have made a point to be a little more active, unfortunately due to the #newsteem from the most recent hardfork, I had to resort to multiple platforms to get the best experience from both mobile (Android) and Desktop (while I am busy at work)
And so I have decided to compare both of my most used dApps for correspondence
Present to you:
I know in my #teammalaysia family, there are 2 camps that supported both the apps, @esteem and @partiko
In face, I believe there are ambassadors representing both these apps... I know @elizacheng is an avid user of partiko.
I personally was (until recent hardfork) was an avid @partiko user as well, simply because of its usefulness; however after noticing my team like @joannewong and I believe even @zord189 always mention that they only use eSteem, I gave this dApp a try once again after its recent upgrades to version 2.
I must say that both dApps has its strengths and weaknesses, and I will briefly point out what actually stood out for each application for me,
The feature that could bank in users
Partiko: the Mention tab
Both Partiko and eSteem has points to gather in order to enable users to "boost" their posts with the apps' own promoting account, but this is something that I did not see in eSteem at all.
For a steemian that might have many people starting to tag you and you want to know what it is about (in case of anything important like what @anomadsoul did for the Road to Steemfest challenge).
Steemians do have a real life, and sometimes by the time they are back online they might have tons of mentions created for him / her to read (especially contest initiators) so this feature would have been awesome if eSteem has it too.
Now I have to rely on Gina to remind me if my I am offline. Besides, no one should be glued and overly addicted with the Steem blockchain because it wouldn't be any different from any other addictive social media network in terms of constant connected.
Update: 19 October.
I found the Mention section filter from eSteem (from mobile) , but it is not obvious. So Partiko still has the UI favourite because it is easy to see.
Partiko: The filtering off NSFW
I am not a big fan of p.o.r.n. and I do not need thumbnails of a woman banging off with her mouth or her private parts.
If Steem blockchain was meant for 18 SX, then education encouragement for kiddie writers like @myjuniors should not even exist.
Partiko has heard the whims of users who want to keep content "child-safe"'; while eSteem does not bother to filter this out, especially there's a NSFW video influx coming in ever since the token is available for pleasure indulgence tribe.
(Unless eSteem has conveniently make this setting exist, but hard to find)
Esteem: The multi-account login feature
For community / tribe leaders , no Steemian has only 1 account especially when they need to separate business from pleasure (personal) account.
And this one has been very much useful especially when you are on the run and you need to quickly switch from personal mode to community activity / competition mode.
Heck. Even SME like @omnivori has its own branding account, while founders like @sam.hsuu has her own private account to work on.
Or charity non-profit entities. The list go on...
Esteem: Token Gifting
This is one very unique feature that I haven't seen other dApps have (with my limited exposure). Though both Partiko and eSteem have their own point system; what Partiko earns, stays in Partiko; while eSteem has come to learn the attraction marketing of "sharing is caring".
Esteem: Scheduled posting
I think like @steempeak , this is an excellent feature to have, but unfortunately till now I still can't set scheduled posting for eSteem to work; resulting most of my scheduled posts (when I know I am going to be very busy later) is used in steempeak.
Great feature that both dApps should have
Beneficiaries
Ever since #newsteem has started on its' hype of The burning project , added features like beneficiaries is a + point for luring users to come and enjoy their service.
As far as I know eSteem has a preset "beneficiary" to their project enhancement while partiko relies on advertisements to keep the funding alive; but both did not add the new burn feature that could just be great for content creators who do not need the steem to put food on the table but just the exposure and the heart to keep steem from over produced to other people's hands.
Knock-out round: Which is stronger?
Partiko eSteem
More than 5 tags
So far, from the desktop eSteem's settings, it still limits to only 5 tags.
Partiko has the flexibility for edit and add tags if necessary (even though uploading photos are not allowed)
Partiko eSteem
The ease of Power up / Power Down / Delegate / Transfer (Wallet features)
You practically can do most of the wallet features that is very handy for those quick power up for more SP with just a switch of Active Key
Verdict?
Unfortunately at this point of time I am not seeing either of the dApp wins. Both has its good features that now allows multi-tagged posting for more than 5 tags and this is a very useful sign in case there are any updates needed.
Even though eSteem provides the ease of uploading / adding images on edited posts, its 5 tag limitation is not getting enough attention from users (like me) ever since tribes are formed.
Well, I do hope that my brief run through of the strength and weaknesses that I have seen on these 2 dApps that I frequently use will be able to help newbies to decide which one to use, or to use both in order to have their best exprience.
Other than that, tribes Webpages are very useful if they want to read specific post of a specific user, instead of going to the main site with all sorts posts combined like Steemit / partiko / eSteem
So far Steempeak is doing pretty good with its categorised posts, but this site itself I have not fully tested except the schedule posting and the 10 tags and the scheduled posting I can use at ease.
I hope you have enjoyed reading this brief review of mine as much as I have enjoyed preparing it. If you do like my review, do give a thumbs up for your liking.
Until then
Thank You for Your Time

Unfortunately it is believed the developer @crypto.talk has now abandoned Partiko to concentrate on his increasingly popular BuzzBreak app.
You could be right @pennsif, but surprisingly Partiko app is stable enough to run its own course that does not need any overhaul.
Even if he has left to build on a new project, Partiko did not allow 5 tags before hand, but after the latest hard fork, it seems to work.
So probably he tweaked something minor to allow Partiko users continue to enjoy basic usage without any pain.
However, very unfortunate that even esteem developers are still working on their app, the (android) mobile version for me still could hang and shutdown itself.
Drafts clearing is not stable and as I mentioned in my post some features are there but still not working well even though it is mentioned in discord.
Hopefully their slow and steady fixes will improve the app.

Hopefully one or both of them will keep evolving.
Steem really does need a robust and highly usable mobile app.
You are right on that.
I am beginning to put some hopes on steempeak. Hopefully it will evolve into an app just like travelfeed.io is working on.
I still haven't got enough time to really test them out yet.

Thanks for review, looks like you haven't really tried eSteem enough... Hope you will give it a try and learn what features it offers. As for your comments, here are some clarifications.
Hi @esteemapp thanks for the clarification.
I am going to look for the NSFW settings again.
So far, I went to settings from desktop app I did not see the NSFW filter preference yet.
As for schedule post, I used your login instead of steemconnect, and I tried even with the active key to set allowed schedule post on, but it didn't work.
Even after multiple times.
That's from desktop app as well, and I have checked it was the latest version.
And as for 7 tags, I will check if it works because even Actifit allows 7 (excluding their auto add in tags) so when I need to edit something from my post, I ended up not able to use esteem to do so.
(just like this one, when I found the mention filter and wanted to update this post I ended up have to use Partiko to do it instead of using yours)
Let's see if I can find the NSFW filter from the mobile version.

Follow @esteemapp as well!
Yes. I am already there. Just that I realise that the developers are still very busy, so I hope this review will allow @esteemapp crew to see other app's strengths from a layman user's point of view and keep improving it.
By the way the android version for me seemed to still keep hanging and close itself.
This is something hope it can be rectify later.

What version have you tried on Android? Have you checked latest version?
That was great comparison with all the main points highlighted. Its always good to have some variety of choice. I do hope developer @partiko do come back and actively participate in future updates because he has been AWOL for quite some time now
This post has been appreciated and featured in daily quality content rewards. Keep up the good work.
Hi @appreciator thanks for personally commenting this review of mine.
I heard that the founder is currently busy developing something else. Maybe when SMT is officially live something might pop out.
So far even with limited features this app is still doing its basic necessary function that many people liked.
Let's hope this will be a good indication that they can still work ok their mobile feature and be better
