"Why Thailand?"
This was the question I probably answered the most when I made my plans to leave my old world and make the move to the land of smiles.
When I was a young flipstar I really enjoyed Muay Thai and my first trip on my own was to a trainings camp on Phuket.
I loved every second of the six weeks I spend here even I was laying sick in bed or running to the toilet for two of those weeks.
Training, beach, eating, meeting people from all over the world and going on small adventures with those people was what I did the four weeks I was not sick.
This is now about 15 years ago and while I got older, fatter, lazier but also wiser this time had a very big impact on me despite I had to make the distinction that this is somewhat not real life but a holiday but I also met people and for those it was real life.
The impact was this big that even the way I want to earn my money was influenced by this time
So when I earned my first $ via online poker it did not take long till I had thoughts like this.
But still a bit too scared to follow my dream I stayed home and went for a holiday a couple of times.
Then after some events I finally packed up my things and left. This is now 2 1/2 years ago.
It was mostly the Sport which brought me here and even I am not training Muay Thai myself anymore for years I somehow like being around it, if this makes any sense. While you meet many many assholes you also meet many many awsome people.
Since my first stay and now Thailand and especially Phuket changed a lot. It is like a soft escape from home. You find a lot here as well what you are used to and at some point the magic of being on this great adventure is falling off. Especially the feeling of total freedom I had 15 years ago is gone which was probably the thing which made everything I did so great.
But the 2 times I have been at home made me appricate what I have here as well.
The laws are changing and maybe it will be time to look for another place to call home for the next years soon but this is another ramble.
I lived outside my home country as well and then it changed so yeah I get it, a rolling stone gathers no moss but it gets old. Several friends, people I know have chosen Thailand for start ups and lifestyle and such and I wish you the best in your journey's.
Every country has assholes :P

Well done for being brave and following your path.. i also did the same 15 years ago when i moved to India and gave up EVERYTHING i knew.. and have had some amazing experiences and even fulfilled my life dreams..
Things have also changed for me in India, rules and even the ability to be there is sometimes threatened as the laws get tighter.. and the world is changing.. Now after many years of deliberations it is time for me to move on, and im working on that now.. as you may have seen on Steem!
I know Thailand is much the same and they are really cracking down on foreigners being there.. is is a good idea to have a backup plan, but sometimes very hard to know or choose where to go next.. esp. after a country like Thailand where im sure you have gotten used to the culture and the maSSIVE difference and contrast of it to the Western world..

What do you think your next destination would be if you choose to move ?
I think I want to go to Vietnam for a month or so to see if I like it otherwise there is still enough to explore around Thailand for me. Also I liked Bali but not sure if I would enjoy living there
In EUrope I was thinking Spain or Portugal but tbh I would rather stay in Asia for a couple more years
I went to Vietnam once. It was quite nice, but I can’t compare it to Thailand. People feel more kid back and friendly in Thailand. I went to Bali too, and I didn’t like it anywhere near as much as Thailand.
Anyways, like you say, Thailand has a lot of different places to explore.

@silverstackeruk is the boy to talk to about Thailand. I'm sure he lived there for a good few years, I think his wife is even from there (ssuk, sorry if I got the wrong).
I don't know what's happening in the world. I'm a native here in the Philippines and most of the time I feel the lack of security even in my own home. sigh. I think I'll just try to save money for a future trip to Mars. LOL. Anyway, wish you all the best and may you find that ideal place in the coming years! Good luck.

your reasons for moving here seem a bit like my own. I was kind of sick of the rat race back home in the States. We have spoken on many occasions about how things are changing, but a friend of mine went to go see a lawyer about a new visa and it looks like there might be another avenue. I'll find out soon and let you know.
This is interesting! Please make a post about this! I have got a friend who would like to move from Singapore to Thailand.
I think you should just write a piece and post it as letter to the Editors of the Bangkok Post or the Nation in Thailand. Other higher officials will soon learn about the measures proposed by those lower ranking civil servants have probably backfired! Technocrats are good at ruining good tradition!

i'm leaning that direction. if for nothing else than a change of scenery and also the fact that from all accounts i can see from boots on the ground and also internet stories made by people i do not know, it is substantially cheaper than Thailand.
Hard to imagine, but apparently true. Plus, no street dogs! (for a kind of sad reason but still)
I know a guy who went to Thailand for muay tai in the seventies. Paul Scheepstra is his name. He now still operates a gym whereas I am still skinny and had a office job ;)
