Is learning to programm worth it?
Around 2 months ago I started to learn Java. It was nothing I really wanted but a skill which was always kind of nagging me
After I was done talking to that skill I forgot about it till the same argument came up over and over till I finally typed into Youtube "Java for beginners" and wrote my Hello World program.
After that I was a bit hooked and spend more evenings trying to make sense of some strange looking words, screaming at my laptop why it does not work and being very happy when it finally did.
While I was doing this pretty much without any goals or ideas what I actually want to do with it, it was still a nice side project.
After a talk with a friend of mine who is very good in that kind of stuff I am getting more and more motivated to commit myself to the little sideproject and maybe make a bigger one out of it.
I found a site which seems to be very well organized and since a couple of weeks an actual idea is forming what I could do with my maybe in the future new skill set.
While I spend a bit of time on those Java tutorials already it is still far away from being an actual useful something but I also did not spend the time they said you need to learn it.
This friend told me I should check out Python because it would be easier and more practical of the things I want to build. As I value his opinion I checked it out and I while it is not a total restart I am back at square one which actually feels not as bad as I thought...while writing this nonsense I think I turn from a "kind of want to learn it" to a "want to learn it"...
programming was never easy when i started learning i thought i'm so dumb because i cant understand some basic stuff like i was learning javascript and learning loops was a absloute challenge for me but i didn't gave up and slowly slowly things started to make sense and now i'm pretty good with javascript..
so please don't give up.
atm I am enjoying it and pretty sure it will be worth the time and effort
I know some basic stuff that gets me through but I would love to be a hardcore back end dev and SQL dev its so costly to get things done I would have loved to do myself!
I can only assume how complicated that is. Did you learn Python? Or what made you choose the language you can work with?
I tried to learn python and PHP and even a bit of ruby but I sort of gave up! It’s so time consuming! I used to do programming when I was younger but in those years we still did c++
Funny enough I'm looking to learn this too. I wasnt going to even look at java, but python was what I planned on learning first.
Now I know you're doing it, I'll leave you do all the hard work and look forward to you writing simple to follow steemit posts for me to follow.

hahaha you will need some patience for that :-)
How did you made your decision about the language?
The problem that I had was trying to learn to program and I was learning python was the fact that certain friends of mine involved in the industry were suggesting to me that entry-level programmers are a dime a dozen. so for me anyway my motivation to learn Python or other programming languages was completely motivated by me wanting to know them and not really believing that it's ever going to make me some money.

How long did you last?
oh, i still dabble in it now. I can't make anything of substance, but every little thing i learn is interesting to me. I have no notion of getting good enough to make money with this but i suppose it is worthwhile anyway.
It is a good skill to have imo. At the moment I am pretty motivated...which usually does not mean anything
you may have already mentioned it but codeacademy is a pretty nice resource for python basics.
that is what I am using and I have to say it is pretty great
That is what I am
Using and I have to say
It is pretty great
