China and the world

The last controversy about Blizzard banning a Hearthstone player for showing solidarity with the protestors in Hong Kong is just one of many.

The backlash from China after a tweet from an NBA official the game in Shanghai was almost canceled but at the end everyone played but the players were not allowed to give any interviews. The national TV channel CCTV did not broadcast the game.

The NBA or better said Adam Silver said last year every player is allowed to state his political opinion but they were really quick to comment themselves about the tweet : "have deeply offended many of our friends and fans in China, which is regrettable."

Well we are taking about big money here as a streaming provider also said they will cancel business with the NBA. 500 million people used this service last season which I assume provides a big paycheck.

Hollywood is editing movies to make them less controversial or more likeable for the Chinese audience.

Quote : "Censorship and self-censorship are common in movies for a variety of reasons. Many people object to the power that Chinese values and ideals have on Western moviemaking thanks to the large financial incentive that Hollywood has when it comes to appealing to Chinese audiences.

Regardless of audiences’ opinions of changes that are made to movies, it’s unlikely that this practice will go away any time soon: until there stops being a financial benefit to making movies at least partially aimed at China, studios will continue to seek out the largest possible audience for their movies."

The money is still green despite actions, values of a company, movie or organization is trying to represent.

The moral....there is none this is apparently how the world works.

Make fun about the situation and get banned as South Park did and I doubt this "apology" will let them appear again.

I think China may have over-reacted a bit but you know, they tend to. I loved Matt Stone and Trey Parker's response to the ban. I would be willing to bet that they don't give even a little bit of a crap.

Haha i actually also watched a South Park episode recently with focus on China. I think it was called Tegridy farms, when Stan’s dad goes to China to expand his marijuana sales in the world biggest market. On the plane ride he sits next to all the marvel characters hehe. When he arrives to China with Marijuana in his back pack he ends up in jail next to Winnie the Pooh, who apparently is in jail because he looks too alike to the president.

There is no doubt that China’s influence is increasing, bottom line is money rules I guess.
