Ogochukwu: How do you think that Steemit can be made attractive to writers like Medium did?
Ats-David: I’m not that familiar with Medium, other than what people have written about it here. I honestly never even heard of it before joining Steemit.
But one thing that will make Steemit attractive for writers would be a better user interface.
I know that this has been said since last year, but it’s still near or at the top of the list for most people who join (or decide not to join) the site.
The criticism about the interface should be taken more seriously by the team at Steemit, Inc., in my opinion.
Having a better flagship site for the Steem ecosystem will only improve the greater network. This should not be dismissed lightly.
Ogochukwu: What do you think is Steem/Steemit greatest strength?
Ats-David: The greatest strength for Steem is definitely the speed of and scalability of Graphene.
The transaction speeds and the amount per second – combined with no fees – is what really separates this blockchain from other crypto “currencies.”
It’s hard to have a currency that can’t scale and results in slow transaction times and higher fees, like we see with the “king” of crypto: Bitcoin.
Add to that the ability to onboard tons of new people into the crypto world, and I think this platform is invaluable to the greater crypto ecosystem.
The greatest strength of Steemit is undoubtedly the kind of community that has developed here.
Whether or not the politeness and encouragement is forced due to the nature of the rewards and reputation system, it’s good to see so many people helping and working with each other.
I know that I have made several new friends here, and I’m grateful for that.
Ogochukwu: Do you think that the price of Steem Would Hit $5 by the End of the year?
Ats-David: I think the price of STEEM can easily hit $5 by the end of the year. I also think that it can fall back to $0.05 by the end of the year.
There are no guarantees here and cryptocurrencies are extremely volatile.
I have been writing a couple of posts per week about the STEEM price and I hope that the information that I present is valued by my followers and other readers.
In those posts, I caution people to not be overly exuberant when prices are up or to panic when prices fall.
This is all a big risk for anyone buying into the markets, so caution and skepticism is a good thing.
On the other hand, all of this is still very new, so the upside potential could still be quite enormous.
I don’t like to make predictions about prices, but I will say that – in my own opinion – I think the price at the end of the year will be higher than it is right now.
Whether it reaches $5.00 or not, I really can’t say. I hope it does.
I hope it reaches $20 or $50 by that time, but I tend to take a more conservative approach to these things.
Ogochukwu:Do you think that Steemit have experienced too many Hard Forks
Ats-David: Too many hard forks? Is that even possible? But seriously…it’s not necessarily the number of hard forks.
It’s the scope of each hard fork. There have been a lot of changes stuffed into many of them, often including several economic changes per hard fork.
I don’t like that practice and I think the understanding of what social media actually is may be getting lost. This is all a popularity contest, users enter and exit with different followings (if any at all), and we’re in a stake-based system, so there will never be “equality” among users or investors.
I think that seeking or expressing that such “equality” can exist does more harm than good.
I’ve said on many occasions that we need to better manage user expectations rather than continue tinkering with the code to try to equalize rewards.
This is still social media where social media rules apply. That’s not likely to ever change.
Also, I think having a much larger user base and better overall distribution of stake (which has been happening) will resolve many of the early-adoption issues.
We just need to give it some time…and improve the interface until then!
Ogochukwu: What is your Best Advice for Handling Criticism?
Ats-David: My best advice for handling criticism? Be perfect!
Then, nobody can criticize you! I’m not sure if I have any good advice for that, other than not to worry about what other people think.
If the criticism is constructive, then take it into consideration. If it’s not, then just ignore it – unless you’re bored and want to have a little fun with the criticizer.
Ogochukwu: What Surprising Lessons have you learnt Along The Way?
Ats-David: I haven’t really learned my lessons, but I’m trying really hard.
Here’s one lesson and perhaps a piece of advice about marriage, because I always hear this and think that it’s nonsense:
Marriage shouldn’t require constant “work.”
If you have to really try every day to love your spouse or to keep your relationship from falling apart, then you’re doing it wrong.
Every time I hear, “Marriage isn’t easy, you always have to work at it,” I cringe. I always wonder why these people stay together.
So, I’ve learned that the people giving out this advice have no idea how to relationship and are terrible advice givers.
Lesson learned!
Ogochukwu: What are the Kind Of Apps You Would Love to see on the Steemit Blockchain?
Ats-David: I’m still waiting for that @steepshot app for iOS! I think that could really bring a lot of new users on board. I personally know several people who have said that they will sign up once that’s ready to go.
I also would love to see a video app that can replace the need for sites like YouTube or Vimeo. That would a game-changer. Whoever figures that out will be a billionaire!
Ogochukwu: What do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered?
Ats-David: Honestly, I really don’t think about that.
I’m trying to set myself up for a long-term business venture that can be passed on to my family, but other than that, I don’t think about how I’ll be remembered individually.
If I can improve my quality of life and that of my family members, then that’s good enough for me. If that’s what my legacy turns out to be, then that’s acceptable.
Ogochukwu:How do you balance work and family demands?
Ats-David: Demands? Nobody demands anything from me! They know better! But really, I don’t have many demands from either one, so I’m fortunate in that regard.
I think I have a good balance of each, but that could be a result of not having much family close to me.
We’re spread across the country and don’t see each other often, but I’d like to see that change and being on this platform could make it a little easier.
After all – I did use some of my earnings to purchase some plane tickets recently! I’ll be heading off to a family member’s wedding this summer and I’m looking forward to it!
Thank you all for reading.

another insightful interview. I was impressed with @ats-david's remarks on the price of steem - none of that shallow triumphalism that leads people into false expectations, and I've seen this measured response from him before and frankly, it's refreshing. I totally agree with the need for a better User Interface - simplify and make it more accessible especially to users who aren't coders but are more typical of the bloggers who write on Reddit, Niume or countless other sites. Again, good work!
Thanks for reading and dropping your insights @johnjgeddes
