Meditations on Rain - Exploring the Hagakure II

But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you will still get the same soaking. This understanding extends to everything.” !
You're getting wet.
Accept it.
How can we apply this to our own lives?
Well perhaps we need to accept that periods of discomfort are inevitable.
It's not necessary to run, hide and seek shelter.
Face the discomfort head on, accept that you will be affected and know the storm will pass with time.
Many a man curses the rain that falls upon his head, and knows not that it brings abundance to drive away the hunger.

This quote reminds me of how the indigenous people in northern Canada and the Arctic see blood as a sign of life in a frozen landscape that is mostly devoid of life. This is in sharp contrast to how most people view blood as a symbol of death.
All the animals come out at night - whores, skunk pussies, buggers, queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick, venal. Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets.

Go for a walk in the rain and you'll often find the streets deserted.
Rain cleanses the the mind and body.
Rain can purity, rain can wash away, rain provides a break in the predictable day-to-day goings on.
Peace
Maybe it's because I was raised in the Pacific Northwest, but rainy days are my favorite days.
There's a peacefulness about the rain.
The sound of a heavy rain pounding on the roof outside calms the mind and spirit.
To me it's the most comforting sound in the world.
