Diversity- How racist are you?

Today our workplaces and neighborhoods are composed of people from diverse backgrounds. For this reason it is important for people to find ways to get along with each other.   Getting along is however not always that easy. We all come from various back rounds and we are all different.  Does your skin color really turn you into a different person?

People are from different races, they have their own beliefs and backgrounds.  People from different backgrounds have however been interacting with each other for years, but sometimes clash because of these differences. That still does not mean that it is because of their skin color.

People of diverse backgrounds can however get along if certain efforts are put into place to counter the problem of differences among individuals.  These efforts being: Trying to understand and finding out more about a specific individuals background. Stopping all sorts of discrimination.  We need to learn how to respect others for their differences.

By doing this you can find out things you never knew about other people, and understand where they come from and why they do certain things. Understanding different backgrounds will help you develop stronger bonds and make friendships. The workplace will be a more comfortable environment if everyone gets to know more about one another, and soon, getting along, will not be such an issue anymore. Clashes between backgrounds will not interfere and the whole neighborhood and workplace as a whole will be a better place.

In addition, stopping all forms of discrimination and stigma will alleviate the problem and help individuals get on with one another. People are sometimes indoctrinated with specific information about different backgrounds, and by having these ideas placed in their head, automatically makes people unintentionally discriminate against people with diversity backgrounds.

If all these assumptions and stigmas that comes with, is all dropped, and we consider ourselves to be equal to one another, all problems will be reduced and people should get along.   Simultaneously, having and showing respect towards each other will sort the issue.

Respecting ones religion, race, culture and decisions, rights and opinions should be something that all us should be doing.  However in a world full of inequality, hate and racism, we tend to forget about these values we should live by.

By respecting and taking others' choices and believes into consideration,  we can say goodbye and good riddance to all these issues.  Let us all take hands, and unite.  Let us as a human race stand together.  We were after all created by the same God.  What makes you better than anyone else? How are you trying to get along with others from different backgrounds?

We are getting better... but we still have such a long way to go.

I think that racism will dissolve as people find themselves getting to know their increasingly multi-cultural neighbors. It's true that children are not prejudiced. It's learned and is related to wanting to do things right and be accepted by one's own culture. For instance, class and race can be conflated. So, children may feel pressure to emulate or make friends with children who are of a higher class than their own family and to avoid making friends with children who are assumed to be "bad influences." There was a time when you could guess someone's income bracket and zipcode by their color of their skin. That is increasingly untrue. A dear friend of mine even has fraternal twins who are appear to be of differing ethnicities. As the lines increasingly blur, so will the stereotypes dissolve. I enjoyed this article. Thank you. :)
