I´ve got my eyes on you - reptilian edition

Following the animal faces mood from my last post... another hunter. And this one, probably with his eyes on this week's @qurator Photo Friday Competition.

The water monitor, Varanus salvator, is one of the most common monitor lizard species in Asia, and also one of the largest. You can find it anywhere: resting on a tree top...

Or sneaking up on you on a city park! And when you least expect it, while you're doing a boat tour on the city lake, he jumps into the water to attack the boat and eat the whole crew...

...only to return later to the starting point with his belly full, lounging in the sun while waiting for the next touris... ahem, meal!

Nah, just kidding! Water monitors are excellent swimmers, but they they prefer smaller prey. And they can become prey too, king cobras are known to eat them.

They're just nice guys... and it's really cool to find such a huge lizard in the middle of the city; a big difference from the tiny lizards we have here in the portuguese cities! 😂
