Might This be Unconditional Love? - Monday Missions Entry

in #qurator5 years ago

@Qurator has started a new contest, with QuratorTokens as prizes (tokens that give daily STEEM payouts just for having them). The contest is open to everyone (not only Qurator members), and the first week's topic is "unconditional love."

Below is my entry.

Might This be Unconditional Love?

Feelings are hard to explain, and love must be the hardest of them all. The word "love" tends to make us think of either romance or family. But the addition of the word "unconditional" gives it a different meaning: that is, caring about others without any specific reason, no matter if they're family, friends, romantic interests, or people who we have never even met before!

So, how would this feeling be like?

It sounds like a beautiful, warm feeling. Maybe the one that makes us feel touched at hearing about someone's problems even if this person is a stranger, or leads us to do things like helping random people without thinking twice, no matter who we are or who they are. People that we don't know, have never met before, and may not ever meet again. We have no specific reason to go out of our way to do anything for them, but still, somehow we have the urge to. This isn't about huge and generous acts of kindness, either. Small acts of kindness already make a big difference, like helping an elderly person cross the street, or helping someone locate a product in a store, or even leaving a meaningful comment on small Steemit users' posts to brighten their day and assure them that they aren't writing to no one. We do it not because we want something in return, or because we've been taught since childhood that we have to be good to others. We just feel like helping, and that's it.

We realize the impact of such small actions when we're on the receiving end of the help. It touches our hearts to know that someone went out of their way for a minute and did something for us even though they had no reason to do so whatsoever. It makes us grateful and adds to the count of good things that happened on the day. It may even improve our mood! And then we realize that small actions that sometimes don't mean much to us can make someone else's day better.

Okay, maybe we would like something in return when we help others... them being glad that things worked out, because we know they're people just like us, and it would be great if everyone would manage to find a good path in their lives and be happy, as hard and utopian this may be. Seeing others well in turn also makes us feel good. It's similar to how we feel when our closest people are doing well, because we love them. This might mean that the warm feelings we have at the happiness of random people might also be caused by a form of love. So, might this be unconditional love?
