"It rained cats and dogs"
No one knows the precise source of this 17th century expression "it rained cats and dogs", but we can be sure that it didn't originate because animals fell from the sky.
However, this old English phrase is being used to describe when it rains very heavily.
Yesteryears, it was common to hear people say it rained cats and dogs but over the past few years, rainfall has drastically changed from just raining heavily to raining very very heavily with thunderstorms, hail stones and and very fierce. Rains nowadays are fierce and have left a lot of destruction to to people and property.
I think the Cats and Dogs have grown to Rhinos and Elephants and perhaps this explains why rainfall nowadays is very fierce. But why?
Climate Change!
Yes, it's because the Climate has changed that it now rains Rhinos and Elephants. Over the past few decades, we have pumped billions of green house gases into the atmosphere that have greatly contributed to the global warming of our planet. This global warming comes at a price and this price can be referred to as the price of carbon. It’s the price of carbon that it now rains “Rhinos and elephants”.
