Mr Vet is here to advice you on how train your PUPPY [PART 1]

in #puppy8 years ago (edited)

Hi guys in this post I will explain how you should train your puppy in a way that it will learn how to behave and won't drive you crazy.

HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR PUPPY:

Verbal component: words are generally poorly understood especially at the beginning.
Second component: tone and rhythm of the voice are easier understood
Third component: posture, gestures, gaze and kinetics. These are the messages more easily receivable by the dog.

In practice, the puppy is able to transpose the meaning of a message reading our body language, our movements and even the tone of our voice.

For example, if we want the dog to approach we have to assume a squatting position, smile with a soft voice. In this way, we send a message of peace. We also shouldn't stand right in front and look the puppy in the eyes. In this way we are inviting him to come. Always pronounce his name with a sweet and quiet voice, this will serve to teach him to understand the verbal component of our language.

To let him know that he correctly interpreted what we wanted from him, we can also reward him with a pat or a titbit.

If we want to communicate to the dog of our disappointment that an unplanned action or message has to be given up, with the body leaning slightly, hands on hips, eyes on the dog's back, slow movements and tone of authority. This is a message of irritation.
The mistakes that we often do, are the ones to issue conflicting messages through tough comprehension. For example, to call the puppy in an irritation position with a authoritarian tone of voice and demand that it be from you.

(Better to know that the NAME of the early dog should only be used in positive moments, basically for recall, never scold using his name. It is better to use NO!)

Warning:  staring insistently into the eyes of the dog is a message of threat, imminent aggression.

You should kept the eye contact when you want reward your dog, but only for few seconds.

In the early stages we have to exasperate our voice tone and our facial expression, in a somewhat theatrical way, to better understand themselves. Later you will see the dog understand your commands with only a minimal gesture or through a single word.

SOFT TONE - INVITING = REWARD

NORMAL TONE, ALWAYS PEACEFUL (i.e. sitting - come) = request to perform an ORDER

AUTHORITARIAN IRRITATED TONE (NO! - JUST) = PUNISHMENT

This is pretty sounds advice. As a dog owner myself it is important to follow the steps out lined in the article. The poor pups can become confused easily if you don't.

I agree with you @naifaz for this reason I wrote this adivce :) maybe could be helpful for someone that would like to have a dog :)

I want to see one day little puppy :)

@margot once I will have my own house I will have one again ;)

Good info for dog lovers.

:) I am gonna create one for cat soon

Generally speaking, here is a good rule of thumb. If you exhibit a given body posture or nonverbal behavior to a stranger at a bar, it will get the same reaction from a dog. Long prolonged stares are threatening in both situations. Squaring off of the body, closing distance, holding the body in a manner to maximize perceived size all are dominate behaviors. The opposite are submissive.

If it is inappropriate to a human, it garners the same emotions in a dog

I'll write an article about body language and posturing when I get home :-)

ok man :) glad I have inspired you

I train dogs for fun and profit :-) and train handlers as well. A good deal of my content is dog centric. I'll follow you, and I invite you to follow me :-)
