Recent advancement in science and that of technology has brought a major impact on the society in which we live in; bringing about a drastic change in the way we live, work, communicate, and not forgetting our culture. With this, the lifestyle of the individual has been made easier, helping to improve human condition as well as helping men to study & critique ethics, justice, education, and aesthetics.
The internet, in general, was mainly created and designed to meet the need of sharing information between scientists in universities and other institutions around the world. Since its inception, it has been very prevalence in the lives of individuals making achievement far beyond its initial expectation.
With this kind of change emergence, the scientific environment has also changed to adapt but the business model has not evolved even after it has used new technologies to increase its revenue and benefits. Even after this; thus becoming more open, which is to help improve academic researches, it has become more restrictive, keeping information behind a paywall this has become a major problem, introducing biases in publication delays, barriers to science desserminance and leaving researchers and research institutions increasing their frustration with the status quo. Limitation on the current media publications of scientific research and other works has not only affected the scientific community but also has had a negative implication for everybody.
Over the decades, there has been a great advancement in the field of science and not forgetting that of technology. With this kind of advancement, the lives of individuals have been made easier. After all this advancement in the scientific field and that of technology, the scientific publishing industry has evolved and adapted like many other industries in this environment of change but their business model has not yet evolved even after the use of new technologies to increase its revenue and benefit. This has also lead to biases, publication delays, the barrier to science dissemination which has also left researchers and research institution increasingly frustrated since rather than becoming more open, which is to help more academic research, it has become more restrictive keeping information behind a paywall. Science has also made it possible for a man to study and critique ethic, aesthetic, education, and not forgetting improvement in the human condition as well as that of culture.
