O obverso mostra o o retrato do rei George VI, olhando à esquerda, com a inscrição "GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX FIDEI DEF", que significa "George VI pela Graça de Deus, Rei de todos os Territórios Britânicos, Defensor da Fé". O obverso foi gravado por Thomas Humphrey Paget.
