What is psychotherapy?

in #psychotherapy8 years ago

Surely you've heard of psychotherapy, or at some point in your life someone told you "because you do not see a psychologist?". Well, but do you know what is psychotherapy?

Or why you should see a psychologist? In this article I will explain briefly what is psychotherapy and the importance it can have on people's lives.

I think we first have to understand that there are various types of people, and each person has their way of being and living in the world with others. We as human beings who live together in groups (family, work, school, friends, etc.) have to deal with different situations in our day-to-day, many things appear to us, many decisions to make, "trouble resolve "and choices to make.

There are people who are said "well settled" or "enlightened" who have skills in dealing with everyday situations, realize life, their relationships and their problems. However, there are people who do not have those skills as sharp, and at certain times of life are confronted with situations, feelings and emotions which which do not know how to handle, or what to do and how to do.

And even people "well settled" at some point in life may also have feelings and emotions shaken because of some difficult situation as (the death of a loved one or relative, the end of a relationship, the discovery of some serious illness , termination of employment, etc.). And in these moments the person may lose the "course", be ungrounded, feelings and emotions can become confused, they may experience physical symptoms such as insomnia, tachycardia, body aches, etc. and the person can get without understanding and difficulties in dealing with what is happening in your life.

Usually in these situations, when the emotional becomes extremely upset, people want to quickly solve the problem, they do not want to feel what they are feeling, so what do they do? Medication! They seek a psychiatrist in search of drugs, or worse, take heavy medication, black box, without even consulting a doctor.

Well, what can I say about taking a "little medicine"? Sleeping pill, antidepressant medicine, medicine to make the child be quiet, remedy for muscle pain, remedy for anxiety remedy for stress, remedy for headaches, there is no remedy for it today? The remedies will not solve your problems with them there is the care of their emotional, that can be done guess how? by psychotherapy. Often not the medicine makes you feel better is not it? But why?

Of course, we can not disregard the importance of the medication (when this is really necessary), but people need to know that just taking the medication they do not solve their problems, people need to know, know your own emotions, your own feelings, They need to understand that to account for the life (which is not easy for most), to know who you can be the best remedy for any situation that may occur in your emotional life.

We are body and mind, your body feels can be directly connected with what goes through your mind and your emotional, is on their concerns, stress, anxiety, depression, fear, anxiety, phobias, irritability and several other emotions, which if left untreated, can cause reactions directly in your body, and this is where comes the headache, the tension, the body aches, the discomfort in the stomach, insomnia and several other reactions that have on the body.

There are people who take pills to 2, 5, 8, 10, and never better, they go to several doctors, make dozens of tests, and do not discover what they have, and do not know what to do. In life, you must take control of the situation and learn to deal with his own life. Regent of his own orchestra, expand the vision and discover a world of possibilities.

Hence the importance of psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is a unique and exclusive feature of the professional psychologist (usually clinical psychologist) or doctor (usually a psychiatrist), the basic difference between them is that the doctor may prescribe medication, while the psychologist is forbidden to
prescription medications. Now the therapy, which comes from the Greek (or therapist therapeutic) and means, to serve, to help, treat, etc. It can be made by anyone. Listen to music, paint, play an instrument, visit exotic places, are examples of things that can be extremely therapeutic.

Psychologist, through psychotherapy, can help you in your self process. When we know who we are and how we are, what we think and how we think, what we do and how we do, things can get much clearer, and gradually we learn to deal with situations, we expanded our mind, our consciousness and begin to see things that before seemed to be part of us. You may have heard someone say "I live with so so many years and not know the law," it is perhaps not the "so" to know right!

Psychotherapy is a deepens itself, touching on what was once untouchable, tinkering with what bothers us. And no, it's not just a beautiful and wonderful process in psychotherapy, we can go through tense, difficult and anxious moments. However, in the process life can begin to present differently, we can enhance emotions, feelings, and so know how to deal with life, with problems and our own choices.

Psychotherapy may help you:

  • In the face of difficulties
  • In emotional conflicts
  • The expansion of consciousness
  • In understanding of interpersonal relationships
  • In the auto knowledge search
  • As of life
  • Among other things

As you know, the human being has the tendency to learn to cope better with their emotions, think and plan their growth and promote significant changes in your life. During the consultations the clinical psychologist may help the patient / client:

  • In their distress
  • Your fears
  • Desires
  • Ideas and questions

It is a space to address the issues that suit you space to reflect, rebuild and think about alternatives that enable their personal growth and development.

The main reasons why people seek psychotherapy are:

  • Family conflicts
