All this gender preference nonsense derives from the Leftist propaganda shrill about "multiculturalism." Having essentially destroyed a man's identity and belonging (culture), it is not at all surprising that there would be an increasing population of identity-less drones. If one's identity is merely relative, no different or superior to any other (despite mountains of evidence to the contrary), then why not gender as relative concept, despite evidence and reality?

Pol Pot killed 25% of his own people in his mad attempt at establishing the Leftists utopia of equality and egalitarianism. Destruction of gender and legal legitimization of mental illness seem quite the mild attempt by Western Leftists in destroying their own countries.
