What is attachment vs What is genuine love?

in #psychology7 years ago

Hello, my friends! I've just come across this short video of Tenzin Palmo Jetsunma and I had to share it with you.

Although I've read and studied for a long time about the different types of attachment vs genuine love, so the topic is not new to me, when I heard this nun explain it in just 3'37'' minutes, I said "wow"!

I'm sure you'll appreciate the clarity and gentleness with which she explains the difference between what we think love is and what love really is.

True love is knowing you have the ability to cause pain,
Yet never caring to use such a power.

True love is letting go of someone's hands,
But not be afraid of losing them in the crowd.

True love is in placing your life in someone's trust,
And knowing for sure that this belief will never hurt.

True love is in giving to one another's dream,
Still feeling like you lived a worthy life.

Beautiful poem, thank you for sharing it.

Thanks. Not sure if that's poetry, just something that came to my mind...

It sounds like free rime poetry to me...

i learned from Abraham Hicks that unconditional love is to be happy without conditions, i start to try to apply this. A very fascinating path. bless you life is good

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Abraham Hicks has some cool stuff, I've listened to a few of his teachings years ago.

Thanks for sharing this clip. This is so true but then it requires one to train and discipline ones mind to be able to do that.

Thanks for watching it. It's true, we can't do this overnight, after a lifetime of doing the reverse. But the first step is to recognise we have a problem and then start working on it, with discipline and persistent work.

Yes. Just like it requires a lifestyle change to shed body fat, it requires a thinkstyle change to shed mental fat, if I may.

I agree, good point.

This is not easy, I think it can go quite unnoticed from loving a person into becoming attached to them as a relationship progresses. Thanks for the reminder.

I agree, it's not easy, but worth working towards it :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Wonderful video. Very timely for me. I recently completed a Vipassana meditation course...and this message resonates with that experience (letting go of craving, aversion, etc. as a way to end suffering). Thanks for sharing this.

Glad it resonated with you. ps: I've also been through a Vipassana retreat a few years ago.

Oh cool. So you know exactly what I mean. This was my second one. A very challenging but rewarding experience.

Yeap. I never went for a second one, but I heard it gets better and better :) so I'm thinking to do this again.

I was surprised by how difficult it was. I think that was a result of the expectations I had as a result of having already done it. That was a great lesson.

Rather than be open to whatever happened, I was initially trying to make into this "thing" that I thought it should be. Once I realized that (at around day 4 or 5), everything shifted for me.

I would definitely do it again. Each time is a different experience.

Hello from a fellow nomad! Thank you for sharing this video! Following

Hi! Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video :)

That's very concise explanation. She's right about it too.

That's why I loved it too, clear, concise and true.
