All too often parents use children as a way to avoid the reality that they haven't achieved in their own lives. Ambitions and values get passed to the next generation and these new individuals get pushed in directions that just aren't right for them. It's important for parents to see children as distinct individuals, and also to not give up on their own hopes and dreams for themselves.
